Sadly, the sharp edge isn't the only flaw you'll have to deal with. Eventually, your hinges will break and Apple will try and shove down your throat that YOU overextended the MacBook Air's screen. Who would force a screen open wider than it goes on a $1800 notebook? Hell, who would do that to any notebook?!

I am about to send back the MB and MBP that I just bought if they do not fix my UNDER warranty MBA. I am so pissed off at the way Apple has treated me. Don't get me wrong, I love the company.. I really do. But man.. the disrespect and general bad attitudes are repulsive.
Why do you think that the hinges on the MB and MBP will break?

I don't, or at least hope they won't. The main reason why is because I cannot afford to pay $800 for a new screen/hinge combo, and right now the only way I can get that sort of cash for computers is if I sale the notebooks. I'll have to just buy a cheap MB, or maybe go used.

The bottom part of a Spec see through hard case comes right over the lip and solves this problem.

Yeah, that's what I should have done. It's sad thing stuff like this has to work that way. But I don't think that would help much, since my MBA is not at an Apple Store, rather a certified repair shop.. or whatever they call it. Plus, they already know it's mine.

I am dealing with some lady who requested photos of the MBA. She didn't sound nice, completely denied that she ever heard of the hinges breaking (complete BS.. a boldfaced lie), and I can just tell she already has it made up in her mind that she doesn't want to do sh*t for me.

I really wish this was resolved or a class action lawsuit was on Apple's heels... maybe that way they would cover it for me. Who knows, I guess I'll find out tomorrow..

The good news is.... the MBA is small and lightweight so once your wrists are too chaffed to type you can put it back in your purse. err manbag ya that's it.

I'm always amazed if the problem is this bad why on earth would anyone keep it and just not return the damn thing?

BTW I find my 17" UMBP "edges" perfect for anytime I have a spot to scratch on my arm. Good edge indeed :)

The edges are there for a reason! it's a feature.

Windows causes Mac users to slit their wrists, we as Mac users know this. By running Windows on our MacBooks, we know we will want to slit said wrists. We also know our MacBooks are capable of slitting the wrists.

Knowing is half the battle..

I too have had this same problem with the sharp edges. I own the new 17" Unibody MBP (my first mac) and I love it with the exception that the sharp edges chafe my inside lower forearm about 2 1/2 inches up from my wrist. I have owned several other laptops over the past several years and never had this problem before. I realize that I probably type incorrectly. But I am not sure how someone could sit and type for hours while holding their wrists and forearms up and not resting them on the computer. If I wear long sleeves, I do not have a problem. But if my skin comes in contact with the edge, it rubs it raw. I now sometimes lay something soft across my lap and across the edge of the laptop to keep it from irritating my skin.

Putting weights on your wrists are unacceptable.

Ever heard of Carpol Tunnel Syndrome?

I find I have less issues with my Air than my MB in terms of the sharp edge. I rest my palms on the edge of both machines but the MB irritates me more probably because the front edge is higher off the desk. I find I don't really even notice it on the Air since it's so thin and low on the desk.

So I do have problems with sharp edges in general, but not with the Air's sharp edges.

Sharp edges

I bought my MacBook Pro 2 days ago -- then I couldn't believe how annoying the sharp edge was for my wrists and forearms. Solution: super fine 3M WETORDRY PRODUCTION Paper A Wt. sandpaper P400 grit and a rubber sanding block. About 30 strokes and the rough edge is gone. Absolutely no visual trace. None at all. My wrists are so pleased.

you must not have used a macbook...

the edge is a billion times sharper... the MBA is fine, you will not notice it after a while
Funny as I've never noticed this "flaw". I guess I just don't rest my wrists or I just have no feeling there.

Have a new MB that just came today. I am new to Apple (or back to apple after 15 years with PC's). *Love* my iPhone and felt the express urge/need to develop for it using SDK. ;-)

I have to say the edge is ridiculous. I'm shocked, really. Those of you who want to downplay it should realize it is an issue and there's enough people talking about it... Considering apple's small market share in notebooks and consider how many people would even bother finding a forum to post about this, I'd guess it's a serious problem.

To echo what others have said, it's not so much with typing -- more when I move my hands down to more casually scroll around with the track pad. Love multi-touch - hate the chafing.

I've been talking about my excitement for this MacBook for weeks. The first one was on the Fedex flight that crashed in Japan, so I've had time to chirp about it coming in. ;-)

Unfortunately, the edge is definitely enough for me to tell people they really need to think long and hard before they get one of these. *shrug* (As it sits next to my bevel edged Dell XPS M1210).

I find the edge to NOT be interfering with my work nor pleasure :D

Unless you are afraid that your significant other will use it to ....
