Go to an apple store and get a 27" i5. You won't wait, the comp will be fast, and if there is a problem, apple will take care of it.

That's sort of what I ended up doing. The place doing the repair is an apple dealer, and they said that they can get a 27" i5 in by Monday and do the migration for free. Since they will be working with the machine before I take it home, they'll check it over for any of the obvious issues that people are complaining about before I ever see it. They can also take care of the educational discounts for the machine and for the apple care. Win-win. Thanks for the advice, everyone!

Now I'm waiting like everybody else. :)
 
Got the quadcore i5 earlier than expected. It's obscenely large, obscenely fast, and if there's something wrong with the screen, I can't see it. :)
