Why is the SE being discussed in a thread that is about someone wondering about how iOS 9.3 is working out for those with a 5s?

Because certain people want to find a way to talk about how Apple is incompetent. Planned Obsolescence is an easy way to do that.

Seems like there would be plenty of threads actually about that where that could be talked about (and already has been more than enough realistically speaking).

This reminds me back to when there were dozens of threads about how iOS 9 lags. They didn't start off that way, but eventually moved there.

Yup, some people just looking to throw something in (something that has generally already been rehashed too many times) even where it doesn't really belong and really has not point in being there.

Most people aren't dealing with those issues and are enjoying what iOS 9 brings for them.

Most people don't care. The OP seems to care.

To the OP. The 5s seems to transfer well from iOS 8 > 9 from the videos I've watched. I won't do it on my Air, but I would if I had a 5s.

Not sure where it seems that the OP might care or to what degree. OP is asking for feedback essentially--someone made an absolute and overgeneralized statement that I then commented on.

Running an iPhone 5 here. Updated to 9.2.1 and then 9.3.

I can say my experience is that 9.2.1 and 9.3 are essentially identical in performance to 8.4.1 on my iPhone 5.

There is only one exception. In the settings and cellular menu, where I control which apps can use cellular data, that screen scrolls with lag or jitter since updating from 8.4.1 to 9.2.1 and continues to do so with 9.3.

That is the absolute only place I have observed any noticeable difference between 9.x and 8.4.1 on my iPhone 5.

So I would suspect that your iPhone 5s should be fine with 9.3.

I have no other observations of difference positive or negative between 8.4.1 and 9.x / 9.3.

I was clinging to 8.4.1 until Monday :)
9.3 now. Not bad, but if you have iOS animation smoothness OCD - do not update. Animations are still choppy here and there. But if you need more juice from the battery and faster loading times - do update.

I have two 5s on iOS 9.3 and those two phones are running swimmingly; no need to update to an SE for Apple Pay, or a beefed up cpu and other internals, camera, battery life, Live Photos, and what have you.

The 5s is a great phone and runs perfectly well on iOS 9.3.

The point of this thread is the comparison with 8.4.1.And as the guy in the post above me says its definitely slower than 8.4.1 which has been my experience as well on an iPhone 6.

Why is the SE being discussed in a thread that is about someone wondering about how iOS 9.3 is working out for those with a 5s?

Maybe because the SE is just a 5S with improved internals? The point is 5S runs below average on iOS 9 while the SE positively screams on it.

last month i did update my iphone 6 from 8.3 to 9.2.1 and now to 9.3. I can definitely see slower performance on my phone compare to 8.3... The new iOS update helped in someways but there are still weired animation glitches that make me really really angry.

Apple's QC has horribly nosedived since 8.4.1 .Or maybe they just dont give 2 ***** about older phones

Performance seems reasonably good on this 5S, although battery life could be a little better. No strong regrets about updating here.

I updated my old 5s to 9.3 and it's fine, but honestly anyone with a 2 year contract should probably update to the iPhone SE since it's only $49 to upgrade to the 64gb version.

Maybe you selectively skipped over "more juice and faster Loading times" for iOS 9. And the 5s is specifically being asked for which I updated two from iOS 8; so that makes me eminently qualified to answer.

As far as the point if the thread did you forget you brought the "SE" into the conversation? Hmmmm?:D

iOS 8 was apples worst release, iOS 9 one of the best.

That cellular screen is a funny bird; must be some suboptimal coding in place.

Yes, I think the stuttering animations and scrolling is the worst about iOS 9. Besides from that, I didnt had really any problem with iOS 9.

I am not talking about all that marketing BS or benchmarks.I am talking real life usage.iOS 9 has framedrops all over the place.Even Anandtech,a Apple fanboy, has complained about frame drops in his recent iDevice reviews. Also, there are 2 more people,in addition to me in this thread who state the 5S has horrible stutters so my assertions are not unfounded.

The 6 is more powerful than a 5S so my opinion counts for the 5S just the same

My devices were perfect on iOS 8 so I disagree.I am getting my iPad Pro on the 31st so I will evaluate whether that remains the case even on newer devices

I believe you have hardware issues on that phone, my iPhone 6 on 9.3 runs near flawlessly.

This is a public Internet forum, expect every word you post to be scrutinized and commented on.

My devices were not as flawless on iOS 8 as they are in iOS 9.

A visual glitch makes you angry? How do you fell about an outright bug, like the calculator giving a wrong answer?

Yeah, I expect the highest standard for the premium price they charge! Last year I tried Nokia 630, its like 1/6 of the price (at least in Europe) and it ran so smoothly...

Someone posting in a Macrumors forum cares more than your average Joe. They asked a specific question to....

....why am I even responding. I've read enough of these threads to know it's not the intellectual thing to do. Brick wall.

My family is all in on iPhone. We voted with our wallets on highest standard vs premium price. But I understand people have all sorts of expectations.

My phone runs pretty average overall.Theres a performance difference compared to 8.4.1 which is the point. My phone is definitely usable

9.3 is the smoothest iteration of iOS9, but given the choice I think I probably would go back to iOS8.4.1 - it was just beyond smooth in every area.

This is the first update that I got an error saying "unable to update. not connected to wi-fi". I finally got something to move when 9.3.1 came out. I hope this update doesn't mess up anything.
