Apple may be forced to at some point. The iPad market share can only go in one direction and that is down. They got the early lead but now there are more choices coming out there and more devices.

Windows 8 has my attention as windows 8 is the first OS I really see that bridges the gap between desktop and tablet. Right now they are two separate things. Tablets are great supplemental devices but you still really need either a desktop or laptop when you own one.

Unfortunately, part of the cachè is the price. It suggests quality (which, in fact, is true) and exclusivity.

But owning Apple products is not the least bit exclusive. It as as common as the cold. The iPhone and iPad are mainstream products and Macs are rapidly heading in that direction too.
