Yeah 7.1.2 was by no means perfect. Still had hiccups, particularly on iPads. I don't think iOS has ever been in a finished/polished state for iPads since iOS 7 dropped. I only glorify iOS 6 for its smoothness and some little UI elements I preferred. But the flat design is far more modern and versatile now.

iOS 8 was smoother than 9. iOS 8 and iOS 7 were both fairly smooth, with 8 being a little worse but still not nearly as bad as it is now. iOS 8 was just more of a slop bug mess, PARTICULARLY in the earlier stages (pre 8.2). It was never fully resolved to the less buggy (note I did not say non-buggy or bugless) iOS 7, but 8.4.1 was still fairly good. iOS 9 added a bunch though and made everything into a sluggish stutter fest.

That's my opinion, trying to be the least biased I can.

Nailed it.

I feel iOS 9 so much faster. Sorry, but I don't share the same opinion. I don't know of a single bug on iOS 9.2, and didn't notice anything in 8.4.1 or whatever.

I am not saying iOS 9.2 is a pile of smelly but no way is it polished. New features for you developers like adblock in safari does not trump stutter and bug fest. iOS 9 should have had a harder drop off point in features by default. Typing away in fields is slow and buggy, sometimes the letters takes 5 seconds to appear in view. The solution is a hard close of the app or the whole device. Buggy code.

8.4.1 was just bad in safari, with all it's crashes. 9.2 in safari is great here, problem is a phone is much more than a webb browser. In 9.2 you have to be able to interact with your phone while tempering the want to throw it out the window due to it not registrering your actions on the screen like a proper hmi.

My mini 2 which was annoying enough with stuttering under iOS 8 is worse in iOS 9. I just donMt get it. Metal was meant to improve things yet even A8 and A9 iPads will stutter and lag in animations, in certain cases it is consistent. I've seen control centre, notifications centre and the odd folder animation All stutter and it drives me bananas. Perhaps a lot of people donMt care or don't notice but lag and stutter on high powered devices is just not good enough. android is meant to be the one with stutter and lag.
