I’d love to see them come back. My AirPort Extreme was so easy to use and just worked. Every other router I’ve ever had required a bunch of configuring and troubleshooting.

So I've been using ubiquiti for the past few days, and it's great. Coverage is good, design is very minimalistic. And I'll throw this out there, Apple should make a push to acquire them. It would be very smart I think.

As I recall, one of the founders was a former Apple engineer. Some of the aesthetics sure seem Apple-like...especially the consumer-facing Amplfi gear.

As good as the hardware and software are, the part I have enjoyed most is that the APs just work. I don't worry about them, don't reboot them, and don't fiddle with them. I go months without even firing up the management tool.

One big challenge that would likely prevent a buy-out is that UI gear is mostly enterprise stuff, with only the lowest end/introductory gear having overlap with the consumer or power user market that Apple dominates.

UI is more prosumer stuff. There is even better gear. I think that nowadays ex Airport users are fine with UI or Netgear stuff. (Netgear mesh is very good if you don´t want cables)

But there's nothing like Airport design-wise. I think they should release some new Airports. It would be a nice addition to the new M chip based Macs.
