Should Dashboard be removed in Yosemite?

After using Yosemite for a little, I thought I'd ask everyone a question.

"Should Dashboard be removed in OS X Yosemite"

In Yosemite, in my opinion, Dashboard becomes almost irrelevant, by the time Yosemite launches, there should be nothing you can do in Dashboard that you won't be able to add to Today View. Doesn't it therefore make sense to remove it.

It's also one of the only area of OS X which in Yosemite has undergone no re-design whatsoever. It's exactly the same as Mavericks and the icon looks very dated on Launchpad.

So should dashboard be removed? Discuss.
 
Yes but knowing Apple they will probably wait one more iteration to remove Dashboard.
 
100% agree. Dashboard is basically useless now and probably confusing for new mac buyers.
 
I think it can stay. It's not harming anything by remaining. Some people still use it and the widgets it contains. I use it once in a while because I have a bunch of clocks set up for different time zones which I like to see.
 
I keep IStat Pro running on it along with weather radar, 3 clocks and sports scores.
It comes in handy for me to keep a eye on whats going on internally with the CPU, WIFI and drive spaces.
 
IMO it is not needed with Notification Center in place. But don't take it away until they have all of the Dashboard apps are available in NC. If you go to the App Store within NC to add apps you get an error message.
 
Dashboard bugged me so much that I used a console command to disable it and never looked back. It seemed so out of place even pre-Yosemite.

Agree - by default it's also turned off in Yosemite (if you try create a new user account, you can see how Yosemite looks by default). It's no longer needed, since you are able to do the same things in Notification Center - and in Spotlight you can convert currency too (and much more).

I was surprised to see it still there!
 
I turned Dashboard off in the settings pane but it still shows up when you swipe, must be a 10.10 glitch. I agree that DB needs to go.

The reason it looks out of place is because it's a time warp to when before iOS was released and widgets were seen as "apps." Between iOS and the notification centre there is no need for the Dashboard. It's a legacy item and almost all development of Dashboard widgets stopped with 10.4. People chose a different direction by choosing iOS apps and it's nothing more than a piece of Nostalgia to before the times when iOS ruled all in Apple.

It will go away, but I wish it wouldn't. You can see more widgets on the screen than you can with NC, and you can get to it faster. I find the whole "activate NC then click on which tab you want" to be cumbersome.

Not really, widgets were basically ways to get quick pieces of information instead of opening a web browser or an another entire app to get it.

I think it's time to for it go, widgets in that form are very dated and as others have said notification centre and spotlight (and also our phones) have made it redundant. I've used it probably less than ten times in the four years I've had a mac, and I'm sure most new users don't even know what it is.
 
If I were at Apple, I would have integrated the Notification Center in Dashboard, not the other way around. That would have included a complete revamp of Dashboard to modernize it.

The widgets in Dashboard are much more complete and functional and it does not become a scrolling festival if I put more than 3 widgets. Notification Center's limitation to a single column renders it completely crippled.

I, for one, much prefer Dashboard and don't want to see it go.
 
Agree. I prefer the notification center because it gives the snap shot of tomorrow. I'd also like to see widgets optional for the main desktop. I'd like to see a snap shot of the days events without having to go into the notification center or calendar. Nothing crazy just like:
8:00-Staff Meeting
10:30-Video Conference
2:00-Drop car off at shop
Quick, concise and you don't have to look for it, it would always be right there. Could be for anything calculator, calendar, weather...
 
I have my Dashboard disabled. For those who did not know you can disable it the steps are:

1. Open Terminal Window

2. Paste the command below and press enter

defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES

3. type the following once the step above is complete

killall Dock


Want it back? same commands but change the YES to a NO.

There is an option under Mission Control's settings to disable Dashboard.
