Yes it's totally outdated, very few widgets are still developed for it, few use it and it sits there taking up some system resources.

First thing I did when I got my Mac was remove it with the console command.

Looking forward to getting stuff for the notifications centre off the App Store. Already love how the calculator is integrated. I just wish say Facebook notifications showed up under 'Today' rather than being under a separate tab.

There is an option under Mission Control's settings to disable Dashboard.

I think thats new to Yosemite.

No.

There is Zero benefit to removing Dashboard and only negatives.

The dashboard is controlled by the Dock.app which is only 10.3MB. Removing Dashboard would only save a few MB of space and simultaneously piss off the thousands of people who use it regularly...

Seeing as you can already easily disable the Dashboard this suggestion is just bad.

Also Dashboard > Today view.

Lets remove the chess app if anything...

That's Apple's mistake, not mine, and I don't have to pay for it. Dashboard hasn't received a single modernization treatment since its birth and it's really the only reason why people hate it today, because honestly it gets the job done and it has always been one of OS X's best feature and has been desired by Windows users for a long time. I remember back then when I downloaded Konfabulator just to mimic this feature. Then they put it in Vista as a copycat feature.

I've always used Dashboard on a daily basis since 2006 (first Mac I bought) and will continue to do so until Apple forces it on me.

You can get stickies for the desktop.

So you're telling me, you want Apple to remove Dashboard that has been around since Tiger in 2005, when Stickies brings us back to like 2000, and even before that ?

While I think companies should try to avoid removing features, I also believe in making a seamless workspace. Dashboard just doesn't fit in with the way Apple are developing the OS and how it multitasks anymore. It's clunky, it's out of the way and has basically been rendered useless with control centre now anyway. I wouldn't be pushing for its removal per se, but I do look forward to the day they decide to scrap it.

Lets remove the chess app if anything...

This. My God, this.

I'm glad you get a lot of use out of it and I agree Apple neglected it but you must admit, few really use it anymore and even less will miss it.

Awesome, had no idea I could disable. Never used Dashboard and it really does look quite awkward in Yosemite. It reminds me of iOS6 and below

It's like asking the question "Who came first ? The chicken or the egg ?". In other words, did Apple not update it because nobody uses it (your stance), or do people not use it because Apple has never updated it (my stance) ?

After using Yosemite for a little, I thought I'd ask everyone a question.

"Should Dashboard be removed in OS X Yosemite"

In Yosemite, in my opinion, Dashboard becomes almost irrelevant, by the time Yosemite launches, there should be nothing you can do in Dashboard that you won't be able to add to Today View. Doesn't it therefore make sense to remove it.

It's also one of the only area of OS X which in Yosemite has undergone no re-design whatsoever. It's exactly the same as Mavericks and the icon looks very dated on Launchpad.

So should dashboard be removed? Discuss.

I wouldn't miss it a bit if they removed it since I never use it.

Do you guys really prefer the one-column Notification Center, rather than the full-screen Dashboard ?

Is it just me who finds the UI painfully awkward and not "directly in your face" like Dashboard was ?

How about the need to scroll to see the information I want ?

How about widgets that are simple and focused on doing just one thing ?

I just don't get the benefits other than "oh, it has a flat interface that matches the OS".

It's probably both. Apple was focused on iOS pretty heavily and I think OS X took a little bit of a back seat.

After using it a bit, I think it could do, but not too sure I'd like to keep scrolling up and down to get to the widgets.

But I hope iOS8's widgets things will be as good as what Yosemite appears to have.

I love iStat Pro and the delivery widget. I also have a weather map that let's me easily see when rain storms are coming my way. (Jeep Wrangler + summer + pockets of isolated thunder showers in Georgia)

Sometimes I wish they'd fill up the other 75% of the NC screen with widgets, or give us the ability to make it wider so we'd have more screen real estate to get a better view of "today."

I love iStat Pro

I use iStat Pro as well, too bad the developers have accepted loads of donations but haven't updated it, instead making some less intuitive version which sits on the menubar.

I hope they bring out a widget, or someone else does, then I'll pretty much be ok with ditching dashboard but not too sure I like the scrolling of the notifications centre.
