Buy an iPad for your parents, then move out. I think that's a reasonable compromise.

Yeah I suppose I can afford one especially after I get my quarterly bonus. Especially after I realize my gains from stocks. But maybe not since I have to pay income tax on those gains, and I'm still paying off my new Prius...

Something does seem right about you.

You're bragging about a near poverty level salary along with investment gains and a new car.

What's going on here?

Good observation. You've heard of "new money?" Well I'm "new poor." AKA the last of the millenials.

So now you're claiming that your measly salary is less than you're used to making? Glad I got my boots on, it's gettin deep in here.

If it's attention you're looking for, I'm sure you can find some for much less than the price of that iPad. If you know what I mean.;)

LOL. The intent of my OP was to see if the ipad was right for me. Not to start trouble or start talking socioeconomics.

Most people don't go on a public forum broadcasting their financial situation, so it seemed odd.

But for a real answer:

Whether you can afford something has nothing to do with whether it's "for you." Its application should be the deciding factor.

Well what do you expect with this kind of mindless post? You are asking people you don't know, to please tell you whom they don't know, what you should do. You seem to be great at managing your stock investments, buying a Car and yet you ask others to make up your mind and decision? Something is very wrong with that picture.

Please know this is not a personal attack,. You need to THINK for yourself. Then give mom and dad a break and move out.

If you can't get by, as a single person on what you make then IM sorry to be the one to tell ya, that you will need to visit bend over Billy's shrink shop many many times in your future.--))))

Now, PLEASE Make up your own mind and Think! ;)

I placed a reservation for an ipad tomorrow. I don't know if I should buy it though.

- 23 years old - just graduated college. Current annual salary: $35k-$45
- I don't like to spend money generally (I save money and live at home)
- I own an iPod touch so not thrilled about touchscreen as much anymore
- Current computer - Powerbook G4 Aluminum
- Do not have iphone/ATT
- I care a lot what people think about me.

Is the iPad for me???

Thanks!

If you can't answer this question after 4 years of college, you need to demand a refund. Then you will have plenty of money to buy the iPad. Of course even then you won't know if it is for you unless a group of strangers okay it.

I make 100k per year and the only debt I have is my house. Cars are paid for. Two kids at home and the wife works too.

Should I buy the iPad?

I don't understand why you felt compelled to express your socio-economic status to us.

At any rate, I'll echo what others have said here: if you have to ask, then don't buy it. It's not as if it's a question of whether you're waiting to see what the 2G looks like or if something better on the horizon is coming, so it's a pretty hollow question. Imagine what your employer would think if he/she knew you were going around asking people how you should spend your money.
