I ordered the iPad Pro 11 cellular and magic keyboard from Amazon today. It will arrive tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how I like it compared to my mini 5.

Hah cool! I went from the Mini to the iPad Pro 11 in February. The increase in screen space, ability to use the pencil, and battery life was a huge plus. I've been using my Pro 11 since February as my most used Apple Device. While I do miss the one handed ability of the Mini 5.... the screen space, ease of reading on a larger screen has cancelled that out.

I use the Pencil a lot --- I've got half a thousand notes in Notability and Apple Notes. I'm trying to get it to replace my paper notebooks I have all over the house/work. Highly recommend an iCarez Matte screen protector - makes reading with glare easier and makes the Apple Pencil feel a lot more like paper. I couldn't use an iPad without it.

I have a d-brand skin for the back when I want to use it nekkid when I read for long periods of time (makes it a little less slippery). But otherwise it spends most of its life in the Apple Smart Folio case (d-brand skin doesn't interfere).

I have the old Smart Folio Keyboard - the one without the touchpad. I find I prefer to use a bluetooth keyboard and mouse that I already have. I have a Logitech MX Vertical and a Logitech Ergo K860 and they have the ability to connect to 3 devices. So I connect to 1) MBP. 2) Work Computer. 3) iPad Pro. I just prop my iPad Pro on a few books and I've got a laptop experience when I want it.

For me a mouse works a lot better than a touchpad and ... I save $299... But that may change especially the more I read Macrumors.

Biggest thing I use my iPad Pro 11 for is reading. I've read almost a dozen books on it and I do most of my WSJ, Economist, Ars Technica and Apple News consumption on it.

I also have a 11 Pro cellular - finally went cellular with this model and I don't regret it.

Welcome to the 11 Pro club :).

Thanks. Just think, we could have bought a nice laptop for the same price. lol

I hope this $300 Magic Keyboard last a good while. Reading posts on here about some problems made me take pause for several days.

By the way, does the keyboard command (Control + Command + Q) work for you in locking your iPad? I can’t get it to work while some other people say they can.

I am probably going to install iOS 14 on this new car smell iPad later today. :)

My iPad Pro 11 (2018) with the old Smart Folio Keyboard (without trackpad) --- Control + Command + Q locks the iPad for me.

Testing with my Logitech Ergo K860 keyboard: Command + Control + Q locks the iPad for me.

(Tested both just now).

For some reason, that command (holding all down at once) isn’t working for me with the Magic Keyboard.

and to add: doing it again unlocks it
I've had this MK for about a month and this is the first time I've played around keyboard commands other than the usual copy and paste.

Ahh. I temporarily did so with the control key yesterday, when I was testing the escape key sequence option. I thought I changed it back. At the moment, Settings shows Control to have no option.

That fixed it. I appreciate the help.

@ssledoux @Mr. Awesome Thanks for your replies. How do yo you find the keyboard in non-Apple apps, such as eBay or Amazon for example? Can you scroll and click with the trackpad, highlight text etc? I have this worry that I won’t be able to scroll or take advantage of having a trackpad on many of the iPad apps.

Almost every app works with Trackpad scrolling, as long as it’s not an app from like 2012. The only area I’ve experienced problems with whole scrolling is in a few websites, where scrolling would scroll a different part of the website instead of the part I was hovering over.

Other than that, using the trackpad is just as natural as using your fingers on the display itself. I have to hand it to Apple with how intuitive the trackpad is.
