iPhone OS 3.0.1
BenM tethering hack
MMS enabled

I've got tethering and MMS working. Overlall I'm pretty happy with things. But what am I missing by NOT jailbreaking? Are there some features that will not work properly? I've heard visual voicemail gets messed up. Is that true?

What cool features and stuff await me if I JB? Thanks!

I'm on a 3gs right now, but I had a 3g before and I had it j/b. It didn't mess up my vvm. Main reason I j/b was 3gunrestrictor.

Jailbreaking doesn't have any effect on VVM. It's only for people who have unlocked and brought their phones to T-Mobile because TMO obviously doesn't support the iPhone. :D

Just take a look around the iPhone Hacks forum at some of the apps and you'll be able to tell if you want to jailbreak.

A couple common reasons:
  • Backgrounding
  • Running VOIP or other Wifi only apps on 3G
  • Themes
  • LockInfo (Emails and info on your lockscreen)
  • AdBlocking
  • Quick Access to settings
  • Quick replies to SMS
  • Video Recording
  • Hiding Apps you don't want to clutter your screen (can still get with spotlight)
  • Emailing, viewing, and saving ANY file, not just pictures
  • Tethering on 3.1

There are even apps to tether your laptop to your phone on 3.1 (not using the tethering interface built in, but you dl an app that does the same thing)

It's pretty simple to do too. You can search dev team blog in google and you'll find all the info you could ever want, and more.

Great timing with this thread...since i'm jailbreaking my 3g iphone tonight.

Why?

Google Voice !!!!!!!
Tethering
Video Recording
ETC!

Doesn't seem like a big deal since I can always click that restore button. :D

I've heard various things about it breaking Push Notifications. Is that still the case, even if you're not unlocking?

Exactly. Even if you decide you don't want all of those great things ViViDboarder listed (but who wouldn't?!) you can always just click "Restore" and go back to stock. No harm done.

So; in addition to all those cool things you mentioned, I can still get tethering on 3.1 if I JB? :)

Yes you do.

If you did, you're doing it wrong.

Ok now I'm confused. :D

You don't need to unlock to jailbreak. Go here to learn all about it.

I do it..I didn't really have a reason to do it in the first place. Curiosity mostly?

Looking back I doubt I could live without Kirkae. :)
