But they appear in notification centre on iPhone too, or is it just you prefer to have a notification icon persistent on the screen ?

the thing is i often dont interact with a notification. say im busy reading an article or playing a game.......on iOS that notification is gone and wouldn't know unless i went to the home screen or like you said pull down the notification tray. Like i said this is so minor but so not at the same time lol. in android no matter what im doing the notification is always there in the status bar reminding me that i need to do something.

Well I decided to keep the iPhone 5 until the LG Nexus came out and then try it in the store and if I liked it enough, sell the iPhone and buy the LG Nexus.

When I got to the Apple store today to exchange my i5 with a non-broken one they couldn't activate the new iPhone 5. We tried for about an hour but their app couldn't get Verizon phones to activate while I was there. They also couldn't just call Verizon because then it wouldn't reflect in their system right. They said I could come back but after having been there for close to two hours (playing with my Nexus S, with my VZW Dinc in my pocket, just incase...) I decided to just return the i5.

The people helping were really great and awesome, I was showing the Apple guy some quick stuff about Google Now. We joked about how Google & Apple should merge and just make the best stuff for everyone.

For my trouble of having to wait for so long and not being able to get the new one activated they said they'd hold it for me. They put a blue hold card on a retail Verizon 32GB i5 that's good for 7 days, so if I change my mind I can go back and just grab it.

Just won a GNex on eBay... It was nice to dip my feet in the water but just not for me. Maybe iOS7 or 8 :)

Honestly, I was highly disappointed with the iPhone 5s battery life (I tried everything). Maybe I just got a lemon. I actually ended up selling it for $900 on eBay and bought a used Razr Maxx cheap. After living with the Razr for a week...I have realized I had made a foolish mistake. The battery life is outstanding but thats where it ends. Ice Cream Sandwich is still laggy and choppy. Games played like crap. Most apps don't look as "nice" as their iOS counterpart.

The iPhone and iOS is just far more refined and polished. I am selling the Razr and just bought a 4S off contract. Can't see spending the money on the 5. Luckily I have 3 lines so once the 5s is due, I will upgrade again.

TRUST me, the grass is not greener on the other side. Anyone want to buy a mint condition Droid Razr Maxx for $275?

I agree, the hardware, the apps, are all really nice on the i5. Just for that go to phone device, for me, at this point, android is the best fit.

I don't play too many games on my phone, if I'm stuck waiting somewhere I'll download something to pass the time but it's not a gaming platform for me. What is important is communication, information and music.

DoubleTwist should help with some of my music sync concerns, and if that sucks I'll get an iPod. I use music on a portable everyday in the car and at the gym, so that's important to me.

I have the iPad and Xbox for games.

Depending upon whether iOS6 ever gets jailbroken (for google voice integration) and how much of Google Now is implemented in their new search app (if it's allowed through Apple review) I'll probably peek in again on the iPhone.

The look, feel and speed of the i5 are great. I don't really dislike the Galaxy Nexus, just not as much as the i5 (or Nexus S).

Lucky for all of us, Google & Apple will keep at it and we can do it again next year :)

If you do your research, you can get an amazing Android device. And you may be shocked to find that a lot of the fears and "issues" of Android are incredibly overblown or flat out do not exist.

There's a world to discover with Android, especially with today's Android. Most of the issues that people fear are issues of Android from yesteryears.

I made the switch after the 4S to the Nexus and have never been happier. The functionality and usability of Android is phenomenal. Customization does not mean just aesthetics. It also means the phone's usability is catered to your specific needs and style. Choice of keyboards, choice of browsers, choice of what lock screen you see when you wake your device... it all adds to the experience of making the device uniquely yours.

And it's a wonderful feeling. Do your research and give it a shot. The only regret you may have is not having done so sooner.

What battery life were you getting out of interest ?

As a comparison this is my daily usage, starting say 8 AM..

My typical usage is 3 email accounts set to push, about 60 minutes of phone calls during the day. Around 25-35 text messages per day.

Facebook, Google + & Twitter updates two to three times per day on each. As well as checking news walls etc.

I generally snap 2-5 photos each day when I'm out walking by the sea, and upload those to my social feeds via 3G

Bluetooth audio about 60-90 minutes in the day.

TuneIn Radio on 3G for 20 minutes in the morning.

Check my calendars and update reminders and notes and such during the day. Often update with Siri.

Read small bit of content on Engadget & google Currents apps

Watch a 30-60 minute episode of TV via C4:OD or BBC-iPlayer Global via Airplay to my ATV3.

End about 11:30pm phone goes back on charge and I have normally 45-55% left on the handset.

This is a 64GB iPhone 5.

My intellectual curiosity has got the best of me and this morning I picked up the i5 again.

I'm going to give it a fair shot, not just 12 hours. I've read some things, so hopefully I can make it a little more my own.

LOL. I am laughing because you are doing the same things I have done. I have returned the iPhone 5 twice now. I tried to give it a fair shot but its just time for something different.

I'm ready for therapy after this I think... See, I had own a Gnex on eBay but the display is kind of shot, I think the pixels were pushed too hard using a custom kernel and something with the Pentile display is off. My g/f has one and I just couldn't calibrate them even close, not even all stock.... so this morning, after exchanging emails with the guy I bought the Gnex from, I said screw it. let me try it again.

I'm still hoping for a jailbreak, and if I really can't deal with it, I'll just sell it when the new Nexii come out (probably not the LG though, hopefully something better is in the pipeline).

I'm more curious though, as to why this effects me so greatly. Before my Evo, I had a Palm Treo 755p and really couldn't care at all!

Maybe I've just lost it my "old" age...

I love my Galaxy Nexus and I even have a Lumia 800 which I loved! The thing that keeps bringing me back to iOS is the apps and build quality. Jelly Bean for Android changed the mobile game to me it took away every single complaint I had towards the OS. You seem like a power user and I think you'll be happier with the LG Nexus although I recommend you keep both :D

I'm with you man! iOS is kinda stale but I'm leaning towards the Lumia 920 since I love the Windows Phone UI. I've kept my iPhone's though since I usually go back to it from time to time but I love dabbling with other OS's. Also the camera on the Lumia is looking amazing!

Bottom line is, you're not really gonna know till you try it.
Since this iPhone 5 update is really mediocre, I suggest you take this opportunity to try something new.
That's what I did and I'm happy as a clam :D

Haha, it is definitely a first world pain that we have but it's fun. It is a hobby, and expensive hobby. I am hoping the new Nexus will keep me satisfied. I would be buying unlocked so I can at least make it a year....I hope.

I absolutely love the hardware on the Lumia 920. If it ran Android 4.1 Jellybean I would be beyond ecstatic. I think WP8 UI is nice and smooth and refreshing but I worry it is too simple and that I could get bored. You don't think it would become just as stale as iOS has?

OP, really, the best choice for you is a jailbroken iPhone 5 (whenever a jb comes out, that is). The freedom of Android but with the fluidity and ecosystem of Apple.

I got a Samsung Note on AT&T and have been very happy. It's a great phone.
The S3 is just as good. My friend has it and it smokes the iPhone 5.

I'm gonna upgrade my phone to the Note II next month when it's available.

Having been a die-hard iPhone user since the original in 2007 and a Mac user since before that, this year I made the reluctant decision to move over to Android for my phone. Don't get me wrong, I love my iPhone (4) and always will and I will still be using it for some apps, games, music and podcasts.. But the iPhone 5 is just not enough for me to justify the upgrade. I dont want 2 years of the same, I need more than that and iPhone 5 simply doesn't offer it. Its essentially the 4, with a longer screen and a better camera. For me thats just not enough. So I took the plunge and ordered a GS3, Im hoping it will satisfy my need for more.
I'll miss the apps and the way the iPhone syncs and works so well with the Mac, but at least I can still use most of that if I use the old iPhone as an iPod Touch.

In my opinion I believe you should stay iPhone.

A lot of apps you purchase will be available to you on your iPad and iPhone, in most cases you don't have to buy separate apps.

Any photos you take will be available on your mac, ipad, and iphone automatically.

All your music will be available on your ios devices, and if you sign up for itunes match, all your low quality music will be converted to higher quality.

You can receive apple text messages from your iphone on your mac and ipad.

Your Reminders, and calendar will all be in sync on all devices.

All your documents and notes will also be available on all devices.

I feared not having those options before I switched over to Android but now that I have switched, its really not a big deal. I've found ways to do the same things and Android has almost all the same apps I've used on my iPhone or similar ones.
I dont miss the iphone at all.

I believe in being open minded, and trying new things.

Go Android. If you like it more, stay. If you miss iOS, go back.

I switched from iOS to Android, and after 6 months, I decided to go back to iOS for various reasons.

But everyone should try both, because they both have their benefits.

This.. Everyone has different needs, and the experience for one may be completely irrelevant for another.
I'm currently in the android phone camp and apple everything else, never had an iPhone, my android is predominantly my satnav. Once apple sort out maps I'll take another look at jumping over for a while.

It's been 11 days since I've returned to the iPhone 5, which after the first one I returned after a really short day has been my first iPhone. I was an android user since the Evo until now.

I overwhelmingly miss the ability to make my phone feel like my own unique phone. I hate that I can't arrange icons the exact way that I want them.

That being said the app experience is drastically different and it's been fun seeing what's around the iOS app store for iPhone and using it. There's a lot that seems to work better for me, but a lot I really miss also. As the days go by I seem to care about it a little less though.

Primarily jog.fm and iTunes have been great on a daily basis. I've never shared as many photos to facebook as I have been with the iPhone.

I thought I would miss Google Now more but it seems like all the information it told me I can just lookup on my own when I want it.

Maps does suck here, it's hard to not trust it like I did the android phones. It hasn't gotten me drastically lost yet but it has not ever gotten me exactly to any location I've tried to go to.

The wifi widget I was after doesn't seem to matter too much, the iPhone 5 battery kicks the crap out of what I had so I just leave it on.

The form factor is nice to get used to, I really liked the Nexus S for it's smaller form factor and the iPhone 5 is right there with it. The display is great, my most recent androids were Nexus S, GSII, GNex and I feel like I had been in a bit of an AMOLED dungeon, so this sharp, bright LCD is a bit refreshing.

Jellybean and iOS6 are real close in terms of performance, from my usage patterns I would say iOS6 is probably slight less prone to lagging, but only slightly. My only recollection of lag on Jellybean was an occasional unresponsive widget or the home button would lag.

I'm still going to see what the LG Nexus is about.

I'd encourage anyone to give both a shot for at least a week if you're considering switching.

I commend you for at least trying something different and being open to 'the new' as it were.

People seem to think if people prefer Android or IOS they are basically right or wrong, failing to see that either is subjective, and both have their strengths and their weaknesses.

It's the priority one assigns to these strengths and these weaknesses that will govern if one is better suited to your needs than the other, or creates a like or dislike in one over the other.

I'm happy to be in any camp to be honest, I have had all operating systems in the past 24 months on different handsets including Meego, WebOS, android, windows phone 7, Symbian belle, blackberry 7 and iOS. I will always own an iOS device simply because of the investment I have made on apps store purchases over the years, but see merit in all the other operating systems too.

So I'll keep hold of an android and my iPhone device for the conceivable future and continue to have best of both worlds :). Though I may sell the android and get a blackberry 10 device to try that new OS in the new year.

Yep... Three years later and I'm still rocking both :)

Indeed the amount of phones I've had since then would give Carphonewarehouse a run for its money :)

But truthfully there has never been a better time for owning an Android and IOS device. We have had arguably the best 12 months of some the best hardware / smartphone devices and things looks set to continue to be great with not only the recently released devices but the likes of iPhone 6S/6S+, Moto X Style, LG & Huawei Nexus devices, Sony Xperia Z5 all to take us up to christmas and then we'll be back at the start of next awaiting HTC & Samsung's next... Lots of devices to come :)
