You don’t need factual evidence for the claim. It’s just how Bluetooth and WiFi works. That’s the reason people who are concerned with privacy have their visibility turned off or have their WiFi network hidden.
How did you think Bluetooth device searching/pairing worked?

FYI
This doesn't answer what I am talking about. There is no evidence that every store tracks you by your bluetooth ID or wifi signal, and catalogs your visits. There is no evidence in your article about the trackability of the U1 chip that others are suggesting should be turned off.

I understand that having wireless technologies enabled allow other devices to see you, but thats a leap from what the poster I quoted was talking about.

It took me 2 seconds to Google it.

The tracking isn’t specific to U1 chip. How could it be if it was introduced just 4 months ago?
If you need more evidence try searching for “malls tracking phones”.
Just cuz I’m not familiar with the possibilities of some tech I wouldn’t disregard someone’s claim saying “there’s no evidence”. Keep an open mind!

And finally, @IowaLynn didn't say every store does it. It’s an option that some stores use to track people. That’s the reason Apple introduced the randomization feature in the first place.

Yes, though the poster I quoted said "retailers know who and where". In your article, it mentions that the information collected is anonymous.

"The system can't take photos or collect data on what shoppers have purchased. And it doesn't collect any personal details associated with the ID, like the user's name or phone number. That information is fiercely protected by mobile carriers, and often can be legally obtained only through a court order. "

"Some retail analysts say the new technology is nothing to be worried about. Malls have been tracking shoppers for years through people counters, security cameras, heat maps and even undercover researchers who follow shoppers around. "

I am curious. Those of you who are concerned about privacy in this manner, are you taking steps to avoid being caught on camera, etc?

No one said anything about collecting personal info. I don’t have to know your name and social security to know you’re interested in Victoria’s Secret. I just need to assign a random identifier and keep track of you every time you’re around. I could use that data to manage my store.
I’m saying one thing and you’re hearing an entirely different story.
I genuinely applaud your freaky imagination!👏

haaa lol... people still think this is "protection"? it can acually decrease protection with devices constantly probing the ssid looking for it..

I know it doesn’t add any extra layer of protection but we should probably get back to the topic of the thread. Thank you!

You continue not to address my point. I responded to the quoted poster who said retailers know "who and where you are". If you aren't interested in addressing that, you don't need to continue to respond. Calling me ignorant is not a response to my question.

Who and where you are as in your movements across the mall. Not by your name. It’s implied if you’re familiar with the practice.
