C DM, we are not in different camps. I like and use Apple products, but it does not mean I reject objective reality.
The OP has just to type "iOS 9.1" in the Search window of MR. There are a lot of very useful threads.

8.3 IS more responsive and smooth, but 9.2 on (at least) my 5s is running well.

I prefer smooth and speed, but I updated because of the ad blockers and other little things o iOS 9 vs iOS 8.
