For me, I only ever upgrade my primary system and get very attached to it - it's my workhorse, my baby. For now, the 5.1 is my absolute core machine. I have a souped up PC next to it which I occasionally game with - and wrestle with an OS I have come to loath so much - windows. You know the drill - fancy a quick blast an an FPS to clear some cobwebs, fire up the gaming PC only to be faced with the inevitable 'windows updates' - 20 minutes later, Why? Why? Why am I putting up with this?
What is everyone doing where Windows is constantly updating on them? My Windows 10 systems are updated once a month...on Patch Tuesday.

If you use Windows infrequently then there would be available updates most times you log into it, that would give people the impression that it's updating a lot. Combine that with the home version not allowing people to ignore the update and I could see how people get that impression.

That may be their impression but it's not reality. Here is the list of security updates to my daily driver:

I have marked any non-Patch Tuesday update with an asterisk at the beginning of the row. There are a total of three of them. The 6/9 patches are the patches applied after updating the system to 1903.

As you can see there isn't much patching being done between Patch Tuesday patch releases.

I think it's probably because I game so seldom these days (from being a complete addict age 13 to 40) - I guess I only boot my windows box once a month, so I always see upgrades.

But it's still a crap update system, compared to MacOS - which is why I switched some 10 years back to using it as my primary choice. Yeah, some MacOS updates require a reboot, obviously, but I'm hard pressed to remember them irritating me quite like windows does.

For the record, second to MacOS (from X onward), my absolute favourite Desktop OS of all time was windows 2000 - that was the pinnacle of Microsofts OS, super simple, very few bugs, exceptionally rare blue-screens and at the time, walked all over MacOS. This was waaaay before I had a Mac, but my brother, a graphic designer, was Mac based. He used MacOS 9 at the time win 2k was released (obviously).

I recall seeing him staring out the window for 30 minutes plus when he was printing stuff. "Why, Mike?"
Turns out he couldn't use the Mac whilst printing, because it pretty much crippled the OS.
I'm sure some MacOS 9 expert would inform me this is BS and my brother was just not using the OS properly, but I distinctly recall the problems my brother had with this. That and optical disks.

Waxing lyrical down memory lane though, optical disks were pretty amazing at the time - MacOS trumped windows on removable storage for quite a while in the late 90's to early 00's, but those optical disks would often fail and lock up MacOS.

How is this a Windows issue?

IME the majority of macOS updates require a reboot. I'd say it's pretty much a wash between the two. The primary difference is Apple doesn't regularly release updates as Microsoft does so you don't have to deal with it as often.

One objection I do have with Windows updates is the bi annual OS upgrades. I dislike the idea of Microsoft forcing users to perform an upgrade to their OS every six months. That can be minimized with non-Home versions but for people who probably need one the least they have no choice. I understand why Microsoft does it but it doesn't mean I have to like it. I would say a reasonable compromise would be an annual upgrade release.
