That was my question. I have a feeling that even with a fairly modern quad core Intel Mac with plenty of processing power, Monterey is really designed for M1. Apple isn't really focused on Intel anymore so I doubt they are optimizing it for that platform and will probably be quiet sluggish and perform poorly.
this would be partly correct. When I went to apple to trade my 16 inch for a M1 Pro 16" the apple guy mentioned that he also noticed his intel Mac lagging and that seems Monterey was optimized for M chips so he also swapped for an M pro. Personally for me the switch has been a game changer. I really enjoy using the new M1 Pro and would not go back to the intel.

I'm on the fence
The latest Big Sur was a headache as it knocked out my security settings for my external drives and had to reset
I read many problems with USB devices as I have an Anker 7 port USB hub and don't want a problem with that so I'll hold off for now

I'm currently running Big Sur 11.6 and wondering if I should upgrade to Monterey, or am I not missing out on much? My biggest concern is if there's many bugs, etc still with Monterey. Thanks, in advance!
if Monterey 'bricks' your computer you're SOL.

12.1 works perfectly on my i5 Air, just as good as 11.x and way better than the lagfest of 15.x

Definitely bugs including a bug with the AirPods 2 and the audio cutting in and out. I am having to use regular headphones instead.

AP1,APP,APM. I haven't ran into any issues with Big Sur or Monterey yet, but I typically use them with iOS.
I don't have any issues with the AirPods on IOS,iPadOS, or TV OS. Its just with MacOS. I found the solution in the sharing panel by turning off a setting and the problem has been fixed.
