So assuming come September we will see the AirPods 2 with the new W2 chip, more gestures, better battery life and Jet Black colour –and since restock is scheduled until March– should I buy them in two months or wait for the Series 2 in September?

Also "never buy first-gen of an Apple product" but on the other hand, I really want them!

I'm kind of in the same boat. If I could have walked into a store and bought them when they came out I would already have them. I keep putting off ordering them hoping that I will be able to buy them in a store in less than 6 weeks.

One thing that keeps me from saying "I'll just wait for the second version" is that this may not be a product that gets yearly updates like other apple products. I think Apple has programmed us to expect yearly updates with the iphone, but for some products its just not realistic.

You never really know if these are going to be yearly updates or not. But for what it's worth I say buy them now, I seriously think they are awesome and worth every penny. I only got mine a couple of weeks ago and I already don't regret it at all.

There's still the chance that more control will come to this version with firmware updates and considering Apple have just added iTunes compatibility with the AirPods it's safe to assume there's an update on the way.

When the time comes, sell these and upgrade to the new ones if it's worth it. But I wouldn't want to miss out on all of those months of enjoyment just because there's going to be a new version at some point.

Buy now, enjoy now.

Buy later, enjoy later.

They are very reasonably priced and a fantastic item and one of the more seamless things Apple has released lately. Get them and enjoy and them get them again later!

I don't think these are going to be updated yearly, HOWEVER I wouldn't count out an update now that stays in place for 2+ years after.

Good responses guys, thank you. Definitely buying them as soon as I spot them.

I'm no expert but I really don't think we're going to see a gen 2 this year. Buy 'em as soon as you can and enjoy them my friend. Life's short. What if you don't make it to next year? You know?

Cheers.

I believe yall are thinking too small. The iPhone is on 7 almost ready for eight. You should wait at least until Air pods 4.0, imagine the chip and features it will have!

LOL I was going to make a similarly hilarious (and slightly annoying comment). I'm waiting for AirPod v6 or 7, by then the release cycle will be down to every 3 or 4 years so I won't feel out of date so quickly, and the feature set will be completely baller! :p

Just got mine yesterday, love them!!!!!

I doubt there will be a version 2 for awhile, and I seriously doubt a w2 is coming until all the wireless beats feature the w1.

Also ordered on 12/17 and received 1/25 so the wait is awhile, but it's shorter Apple is saying.

So, 4 months later and I still haven't got the AirPods, should I wait if September will bring AirPods 2 and if not, buy them? Or just buy them now?

I would just order them online now and wait the 6 weeks or whatever the ship date is. Forget about them, and once they arrive you can make the decision on if you want to keep them or not. Apple has a 14 day return policy.

What if the series 2 is as hard to get hold of? You might be sat here in 12 months still waiting and that's assuming they release them at all.

Yup, sooner or later with any product you've got to just take the plunge and enjoy what you've bought. If you keep waiting for the next big thing or the new version, you'll never get anything and you'll miss all the fun.

I admit if I were in the market right now for a pair I'd be waiting until after WWDC. Although I very, very much doubt they'll introduce a new version there, if this year at all. Might as well wait and see, it's only a couple of weeks.

When AirPods 2 do come around, I don't expect anything much more than enhanced controls for playback. The current ones are pretty damn good as they are.

I've loved every moment with my AirPods. I use them far more than I thought I would. They're just so convenient, I find them light and comfortable and you know what. The sound is actually pretty damn good. Yeah I've got better cans, but those aren't tiny little wireless things I can carry around in my pocket. The better ones are huge wired lumps or similarly huge wireless things with much worse battery life and a damn sight less convenience.

I don't care about the naysayers, or the idiots who proudly proclaim sheeps. I love, love, love the AirPods. Best wireless headphones I've ever owned and I've had a lot of them.
Some wireless cans have better sound, though they tend to be a lot bigger. But as a complete package, none match the AirPods.

Damn I'm waffling on again, I'll just shut up and go back to enjoying my morphine kick :p

I'd expect airpods to be updated about as often as the original wired airpods were. That is why I was fine paying ColorWare to get a custom pair.

They are simple for a reason. Because that is Apple's vision for the product. Look at some of the excellent beats w1 products for more features.

They don't cost enough money to worry about the next version coming out. They are $159 it isn't like you are buying a house. As others have said we don't know the update cycle on these thing anyway.

I would just order them. 6 weeks goes by and if you don't see them in a shop for another 6 weeks you would already have them. That leaves you wondering again if you should buy them.

Given there is a 6 week wait, I can't believe we'll see an update or major update anytime soon. Plus, as others have said, this isn't like a big ticket item like a computer or even an iPhone.

The other way to look at this is that apple haven't bothered ramping up the production of these because they are planning an update soon and there is no point increasing the production of a soon to be outdated product.

I don't believe that personally but it is a bit odd that they haven't solved stock issues on something like this in such a long time.

I've tried out a pair for 2 weeks or so. Can't say what you should do, but I'm selling and waiting for the next version.
For me, they don't stay in my ears well if I am moving. The sound quality is middle of the road at best. and I prefer comfortable soft buds that mold to your ear.
Pluses are the build quality, easily sync to many devices, my Watch, iPhone, and mac and usability.

Do you think these updates will include a volume input on the devices? That's the one thing I am really missing
