Should I wait for AirPods 2?

Whenever I walk into my local Apple Store with full intentions to buy them, they are never in stock.

If I go in the store with no plans to purchase as I already have the PowerBeats 3 and Solo 3 wireless headphones, they are always in stock.

You just have to keep your eyes pealed on MacRumors and other tech sites, people will find sources of Airpods. I snagged mine yesterday after somebody mentioned Best Buy had them in limited supply with free 2 day shipping. They went out of stock 15 minutes after I bought them. You just have to be lucky I guess...

You mean the wireless charging ones? It's your decision. How can we know? If you are getting or have other wireless charging devices, then sure, go for it.

I understand that the wireless charging device will be done by changing the case, not the AirPods.

You may get hit by a truck tomorrow, get them now! My local BestBuy had about 20 pairs in stock.

Apart from the wireless charging case, what kinda of updates would people expect to get on the next ones - longer battery? Anything else? Not owning or even using a pair no idea what kind of upgrades may be required with the next version

They are earphones! All they can really innovate is have longer battery life. That, and touch sensitive controls.

There are no new ones. The wireless charging case is an optional item for an additional $69.
