I just upgraded to the 14 pro max about a month ago. I always wait for the latest model to upgrade, but this time it was different. I had owned my 13 pro for a year and half and it just wasn't cutting it for me. Battery life was horrible and I found the screen too small for my eyes. I got sweet deal on 14 pro max, I know the 15 pro max will definitely go up in price and will most likely remove the physical SIM card slot here in Canada. I know that I will regret it a little bit when the 15 comes out, but I can live without most of the features. It's not a deal breaker for me.

You’ll be fine I’m sure… the only reason I upgrade to the new iPhone is for the camera. Everything else on the iPhone is the same. The apps are the same, safari looks the same, etc. Yes the new iPhone will be faster, but I never notice because I don’t use mine for gaming. Video will probably be better, but I don’t shoot much video. I’m a still photographer. The iPhone 15 pro max will still have a 48mp sensor as the 14 pm does. But I’m sure it will have minor improvements. The other two cameras (telephoto and ultra wide) have had 12mp sensors for years. If the iPhone 15 Pro still has 12mp sensors for these cameras, what’s the point in upgrading? I’ll be interested if they get 24mp sensors or if all are 48mp. Apple needs to do something with these cameras.

I had two Sony A7R III cameras. Recently got rid of those and replaced them with one A7R V and a couple of new lenses. The 50mm f/1.2 GM and the newer Sigma 85mm Art. Great camera! You’ll do fun with the iPhone as a main camera. I took that on last year when in Colorado for a week. All I used was my iPhone 13 Pro Max for everything. I shot everything in ProRAW though. Jpeg photos are bad to use unless it’s just a snapshot because of the high compression and because of the fact no deep shadows or overexposed highlights can be recovered like they can when using raw. The only photos I took in jpeg format were the controlled and properly exposed 3x panoramas like this one.

New phone has just arrived :) yeah I'm looking forward to it. The reason that made me get the Sony was a previous Disney trip and we had the iPhone 8 Plus which was in 2018. The photos looked great on the phone and I was really impressed but when I got them back home on my computer on a larger screen I feel out of love with them as they didn't have the detail once on a big screen.

That photo looks great and I'll be having a play with the raw option :)

Good deal. I’m glad your phone arrived. Unfortunately panoramic shots on the iPhone cannot be taken and raw unless you shoot raw individual photos and stitch them together in Photoshop or similar applications. Now, if you want to take advantage of the 48 megapixel resolution and do not wish to use raw all the time, may I suggest the following apps that will allow JPEG/HEIC formats and 48 megapixel resolution:

ProCamera
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/procamera-capture-edit-raw/id694647259

Halide MK II

There are others, but these are the best ones to use.

The other app that I use exclusively is the Moment app, which just had a very nice update. Photography has always been a passion for me and the Moment app has been the best one so far for my needs. This app really helps me when I want to use the iPhone camera and 48 megapixel ProRaw mode. You have the option to focus manually and turn on focus peaking, which is fantastic by the way. You can manually focus the camera to highlight and focus on a single spiderweb strand and capture just that. That’s how accurate it is. however, the 48 megapixel resolution only worked in ProRaw on that app. Here’s the link for that one if interested.

ProCamera by moment:

Anyway, enjoy your 14 Pro Max.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check those apps out as well.

Do people really need the pro version of iPhone? I assume the three cameras are for status, and I assume most people don't know the difference between the entry level and pro model.
