Gotta be in it to win it
If we were only two months closer to September, I might have said iPhone 7 Plus. But only six months with lesser chances of getting defects from the first batch of iPhone shipments, cheaper deals, and more refinements with the software, I think you could live being six months late.

But seeing the renders of the iPhones this year, the iPhone 7 design does NOT impress at all. In fact, the best looking iPhone being released in 2016 seems to be the iPhone 5se. Apple went back three years ago to the best design they made in the decade and made it rounder using the same A9 as the 6s/6s Plus. If you can live with "4, get 5se and wait for 7s Plus next year. Pick refine over define. And the 5se seems to be the ultimate refinement of 5s with most of the interior of the 6s.

I actually like the 5se but already got used to "4.7-"5 during the last three years that my typing speed will suffer. But it looks to be the best compact phone since the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.
Are you referring to the renders that actually turned out to be an android phone?

I have the 6 + and its the only iPhone I have kept more than a year. I love it, and apart from the camera "recall" issue, had no problems with it. Super iPhone. I didn't upgrade to the 6s (+) as they are too expensive for me.

To the original poster, if you need a new one get one, if not, wait. You can always wait for the next best thing.
That's perfectly fine. I'm happy you enjoy the phone more than I do. It was the one phone, for me, that I should have returned when I had the chance. It simply can't keep up with multitasking I do.

I personally think you should get the 6s+ now. I always get the "S" version because it is always the upgraded version. But, unless you upgrade every-other year, maybe you should wait for the 7.

If money is an issue, I'd wait. The iPhone 7 is right around the corner, 6 months is not a long wait. If money is not an issue, buy the 6s now to enjoy and just resell it and recoup the money to help with the 7 purchase.

(A repost from another thread)

Always bet on the "s" years

iPhone 3Gs - The first hardware spec bump with double the RAM and first to finally offer video recording that neither the first two gens ever had by default.

iPhone 4s - First dual core with 7x faster GPU and better antennas to remedy Antennagate. The 4s and iPad 2 has now been updated longer than the 4. Thanks, A5.

iPhone 5s - First to have the Touch ID, 64-bit processor, and the space gray helped remedied the Scruffgate issue from the slate iPhone 5 from the year before. The first to introduce a gold option too.

iPhone 6s/6s Plus - First to get Force Touch, but most importantly, the A9 chip with an extra gig of RAM was a massive update internally as seen with the benchmark scores destroying every Android last year like the Note 5 which had 4 GB of RAM!

-
Android

HTC One M8 - Brought back the micro-sd slot, 25% louder, wasn't plagued by purple photos like the M7, didn't heat up as much, and its longer battery life coming from the best and most battery efficient SoC that Qualcomm ever produced for flagships - Snapdragon 801. The 800/801 was a massive upgrade than the battery hungry 600. M9 never matched its efficiency with the problematic 810 and ditching the UltraPixel cam didn't exactly skyrocket HTC to the top of the camera department either.

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge - Brought back two of the three omitted with the S6 like micro-sd slot up to 200 GB (you can buy one for $90 at Best Buy). Water-resistant with no annoying flaps that the S5 and older Xperia Z devices had. Samsung still making it more comfortable to hold and with better color options. This is what the S6 edge/edge+ should have been!

Take your chances on phones that were upgraded internally instead of externally. They can last longer because they are correcting the problems of its identical twin predecessor. The fresher new design tends to offer more problems which may need fixing over time. Even if Samsung decides to bring foldable displays next year, they could still have issues without the extra year needed for refinement. Like beautiful women. Just because they might be gorgeous on the outside doesn't mean you can always depend on every single of them. Inside counts more in the longer run.

I think this is really good advice. And something I'm going to start. I was a day one pre-order for the 4, 5 and 6.

The 4 had the proximity issue (known bug). For two years I dealt with inadvertently putting people on hold/mute/speaker at random times.

The 5 had the battery issue (known bug). That resulted in two trips to the Apple Store to get it replaced the first year.

The 6 has a dying GPS. Apple told me it would be $299 to get an out of warranty replacement. It's either that or go ahead and burn my upgrade under NEXT. Since I use my phone for running ,it's either spend $299 on a replacement, spend the same amount on a Garmin or upgrade.

I'm tired of beta testing shoddy new hardware. I'll likely stick with Apple because their stuff is still the best out there (though I'd happily switch if there was an equal alternative). But I'm off the day 1/first model bandwagon. I'm sticking with the S model from here on out. As the post above shows, it's usually a superior device with a lot of bugs worked out.

If I was in the OPs shoes, I'd go ahead and grab the 6s and wait for the bugs to be worked out of the 6s. Plus, the big attraction of the 5/6 was a bigger screen. Unless there is a more efficient use of screen space (squeezing a bigger screen out the current form factor), not sure there is any major hardware changes that would result in buyer's remorse.

That is one of my 2 gripes with the 6. RAM and screen resolution. Apps reload fairly quickly after being thrown into the background and I can't rely on having any more than 2-3 tabs open at a time. It's a little frustrating at some points.

If they don't up the res on the iPhone 7, do you want to start a revolution with me?

I would wait it out. I'm waiting right now too, but in much better shoes. My iPhone 6 is still current and doesn't have any issues. If it did though, I'd still wait to get the 7.

I upgrade every 2 years or so, so I too will wait until this fall to upgrade from my 6. Then hand my phone down to a family member using an older model.

If I upgrade now, I'm moving to a more frequent upgrade cycle, and that costs money :)

New phones add new LTE bands, possibly improving coverage and speed, depending on carrier.

Maybe I'll go with a different form factor. Every iPhone I've had has had some screen improvement from the previous. The 4 had retina. The 5 had a bigger screen. The 6 yet another bigger screen. Do I go crazy next time and increase size again?

I really should stay off this forum... Long time lurker, first post here. I just went out and bought me and the other half an iPhone 6S 128GB each. We have come from iPhone 5 so a fairly big jump. We are happy and I think if you want a spec/performance jump then go for it. I'm also of the opinion that the S versions have ironed out any issues.

I just had the battery replaced in my iPhone 5 last Thursday-- cost me $85. That's not cheap when you consider it gets you pretty far into the price of a new phone. My justification was that I'm not sure I want the larger form factor of the 6 and 7, but I'm not sure the new 4" will have the additional storage space I'm waiting for. My 5 is a 64GB and I don't see a point in upgrading unless I can go to 128GB.

If I do upgrade, I'll hang onto the 5 as a backup-- or for use when I travel since it's been unlocked.

Battery case isn't a bad short term alternative if you're willing to take the extra bulk.

I'm going to increase again! I went from a 3.5" iPod Touch to a 4.7" iPhone to a 5.2" Moto X to a 6" Nexus 6 and I won't get anything less than 5.5" on the next phones I buy. I just moved back to my iPhone from my Nexus and man I miss the big screen. Big screens are great!

If it was me I would go with the battery case or go to a phone company you trust like ubreakifix and see how much a new battery costs.

That said I think the 6s is a pretty good phone. I like my ip6 but the 6s has a few extra features so it would be a good phone to last 18 mo or even 30 mo until the model comes out when your upgrade hits again.

I am a fanatic though, so I always want to upgrade :D

I'm still rockin' the iPhone 5. The battery isn't the greatest (but is surprisingly pretty good) however I do own a Mophie so I never actually have battery issues while I'm out.

I'd recommend getting a battery case or a portable battery backup and hold out for as long as you can. The iPhone 5 is still more than capable of being a daily driver (at least for me). Design wise, it's also still my favourite.

If the iPhone 7 has a slate colour option, I might just have to upgrade...

I went from a 5s to a 6Plus to a 6S Plus. I'm loving the 6S Plus and think those who recommend sticking to the S cycle are giving good advice. That being said, the camera means a lot to me and it's always going to be the feature that tempts me to upgrade. But other than the camera, every other aspect of the IPhone 6S Plus experience so far is perfect. It sounds good. It works great. It looks good. The screen looks great. I enjoy using Hey Siri and Live Photo on it. It's performing well. And I can even get it a little bit wet and it's fine.

The camera is good, too.

I didn't like my 6Plus very much and was glad to move on from it. Every complaint I had about the performance of the 6 Plus has been remedied in the 6 S Plus. I don't really want to move on from my 6 S Plus. I may end up not doing so. A lot is going to depend on what the 7's camera can offer that mine can't. But the phone itself is perfection.

Double check your iPhone serial number. Perhaps it should have been a freebie replacement.

How much will the price drop on the 6, when the 7 is announced?
From what I can remember, it's usually $100?

Any answer would be really helpful for me :)

I would wait at least till the announcement for the iPhone 7 that way you can decide if you would want the iPhone 7 and if you don't, you can get a iPhone 6S for a 100.00 less then what is sells for now. So either way its a win win since we are close to the announcement.
