The oldest Mac I've ever worked with is a PowerMac G4 - I'm really curious about working with a Macintosh, only to know what computers were like back then. It looks like some sort of early iMac, with the screen and computer built into one case

You're reading way too much into this. People post what they eat, what care they drive, and the last thing they purchase just for the sake of posting the picture and it's quite interesting to see what your peers or other people have. Sometimes it's inspirational (especially the food thread).

I doubt that peoples' intentions are to post things to show off because they're vain and egocentric.

Sure there are a handful of fandroids and stupid mac fanboys that stir up some arguments but their posts fade into the cyber wasteland in about 24-48 hours because people are just way too busy with their lives and the entertainment value of the idiotic arguments get old quick.
