Taste is a wonderful thing - can be so different. I really love my Ultra Milanese and don't like this design very much.
To me, Apple really made an awesome milanese band in super high quality and even compared to brands like Omega they nailed the closing and adjusting. Tried the Omega on, and the bucke is SUPER thick and kind of weird to make a milanese but still use holes for adjusting

It‘s 44mm (from 2021). The gap isn’t noticeable in my opinion. Here’s an older pic of it
