I'm not sure if you were asking me but I always go to the apple and press shut down.I don't use the power button for shut down.
Yes, that's helpful. It was an open ended question to anyone who has had the problem. I'm trying to see if there is any correlation between using the menu or power button when this condition occurs.

Macbook
I have had the same problem. A few times. shut down, light on, hot...
Today it turned black without shutting down in the middle of sending an email. the light stayed on. When I went to boot, the computer started, but black screen was still there. The 'guide' tells you to put in disk 1 from installation pack. It ate my disk. I have a 3 yr service agreement, called them, they walked me through like 10 different steps, nothing... they are sending me some "mail dispatch" package that I am to send my computer. BS I'm a student taking 18 summer credits, I have 1 week left in my classes and everything I need is on that computer. F*&K!!!!!!!!!!!

Because my Macbook has *all* the problems...

I have sort of experienced this once.

I am a long time ibook user, and I have NEVER turned off the machine. I always put it to sleep by closing the cover...

Once I had done this with the Macbook and the battery drained overnight. From nearly full to empty.

The geniuses think it is the battery, but the macbook is in for logic board replacement. God I hope that it is fixed.

Same Problems and more

I had my white Macbook 1 week and right from day one I had shutdown problems.

It was a 2ghz, 2gb RAM, 120gb HD top spec mac.

I would shut it down with everything quited and the sleep light at the front would stay glowing even when it wasn't charging and it would be making hardrive accessing noises.

I had to to hold the power on button down about 3 seperate times before it would start back up so I could attempt a proper shut down.

It does it every so often and one time it shutdown and the sleep light went out but the fan just kicked in and kept going, It wouldn't turn on for me to re-shutdown, so I had to disconnect the battery to get the fan to stop!

Like I said I had it one week so I called up apple aftersales and they said we will collect it back and send you a brand new one out straight away.

So all in all i felt a bit unlucky and hopefully my new one will be ok when it comes.

This shut down thing is happening to me also!! I hae only had my macbook since Friday, should i be reporting this? It has happened twice to me. I don't live close to the apple store I bought it at or I would just run it over there. I am beginning to wonder if this was a good purchase. :(
