It's actually 2662x2662 which is the resolution of the Apple official wallpapers.
Using a lower resolution results in a less than satisfying result as dekoapp.com rightly says:
"iOS is of course happy to use smaller or bigger files and resize or crop them to fit, but this can result in artefacts as the images get interpolated. So for pixel-perfection use the dimensions below or grab the Photoshop templates."

This, and Apple hasn't made the Landscape wallpaper look nice on non official wallpapers for 6 Plus...

It's not dumb at all, it's not that you shouldn't use it. If you like them that's perfectly fine.but in the case of the OP he doesn't like the selection so he should know that there's plethora of options out there and the fact that he doesn't like the stock wallpapers shouldn't be an issue

That's fine, but that's not what your post implied or said. You literally said that no one on this site should still be using the stock wallpapers and that doing so should be left to the common users. I was replying to that specific statement.

Being a photographer I've used my own images as my wallpaper on any device I own. I'm surprised adults, I assume those who are complaining are adults, care this much about default wallpapers. Your everyday lives must be so difficult, really.

This from a guy who takes photos and uses them as wallpaper!? Waaaaay to much time on your hands. What we're doing is having a little bitch about wallpapers, relax, it's fun. You don't like it? Find some wood and nails then build a bridge and get over it.

I happen to use my own images as wallpapers because I'm a photographer--both as a hobby and paid. I'm not a photographer because I need wallpapers. I'd argue we both have too much time on our hands if you can have a little bitch about default wallpapers on a forum and I can criticize you for it. :)

I'd argue the problem is that the icons since 7 tend to look bleh against most backgrounds. Flat colours without drop shadows just blend in to make visual noise. Generally I find the only way to make wallpapers appealing is to blur them so the icons read as a separate layer.

I was surprised at how bad most of the new wallpapers look with the blurred dock. I'm fine with finding my own wallpaper, but I can appreciate when attention is put into design to make everything look good as you get the iPhone without having to do your own customizations.

Try InterfaceLIFT or Pimp Your Screen. Excellent wallpaper. You won't be disappointed.
