That's a good way to mix it up a bit, shame though that the AI is quite dreadful at naval battles or planning invasions on other continents.

Is there a laptop where the fans stay quiet when playing Civ V ?
On my 2011 13in MBA they go to max very quickly so I end up quitting after 15mins or so !

Turn down the graphics settings. It's really that simple.

Civ V can be a demanding game and on high settings you are just making your GPU work harder. If you are making your GPU do work, it's going to produce heat.

It's like an animator or graphics designer complaining that his MacBook Pro gets hot when he's doing 3D rendering. If computers didn't get hot when doing work, then we wouldn't needs fans would we?

Plus, your are playing on a 2011 Air. I think even medium settings would make your laptop huff and puff a little bit.

Thanks. So I guess that the 2013 rMBPs will be quieter than the 2012 rMBPs etc if they're doing the same work since the GPUs are more powerful ?

BTW, yes we would always need fans, but the quietest PCs are those with several large slow running fans instead of one small fast fan.
