Hi guys,
I’ve just updated to Catalina since the release but cannot seem to get sidecar working. iPad Pro & mbp are on the same wifi network however when I select the iPad it pops up with an error box saying the connection timed out after 5-10 seconds.
anyone else having similar issues?

2016 MacBook Pro (says it’s a compatable model) with a 11” iPad Pro. Trying to connect through sidecar in system preferences and also through top bar through AirPlay. Both give the same error ?

I would try restarting both the MBP and the IPP. See if that will allow the 2 to communicate. On another note, do you have bluetooth enabled on both devices?

I'm with Cruz3LT, I don't have an issue. My MBP and iPad Pro connect in less than 2 seconds and there is practically no lag.

Have restarted and completely shutdown both devices. Nothing has changed.
Bluetooth is on, on both devices.

Sounds like you may want to contact apple maybe then.
A quick google search seems to indicate ALOT of people had this issue during the beta's however, cannot seem to see a fix.

I've had a quick look through the forum, and there does seem to be some random issues with this, so thought I'd open my own thread.

I have a 2016 MacBook and a 2018 iPad so these should work in Sidecar mode?

My issue seems to be Bluetooth related as once I've paired the devices (either Macbook to iPad or iPad to Macbook) I can't connect to the iPad from the Macbook. When i right-click on the iPad I just get a Remove option, whereas with all the other Bluetooth devices I get Connect and Remove.

It's not working with a wired connection (USB-C to Lightening) either, although the iPad pops up in Finder without any issues.

All I see in the AirPlay settings is my Apple TV and AirPlay switching from Off to Looking for TV...

Any ideas where to start?

Thanks

Kart,
Have identical issue. Was on call with Apple Tech yesterday and we couldn't figure it out....waiting for follow-up call today. If we figure it out I will post here.

Kart,
..just got off phone with Apple Tech and after almost 2hr. we fixed it...you WILL need AppTech as solution will involve reseting your computers privileges as well some work in Terminal and some password acrobatics. But should work!

I don't see any setting to place my iPad display to the left. I thought this would be an obvious option. Slightly annoyed that I have to move pointer to the right.

Also, does the pencil add any real function to sidecar? If so, I might pick one up.

Mine wouldn’t show up at first took me a while to work this out but make sure both are on the Bluetooth settings page are open when you try to connect, then connect your Mac to the iPad and a code should appear (my codes auto from my iPhone) then just go back into Sidecar and it should show

Well, what a great, well thought through, solution that was Apple.

Turns out my problem was the devices not having the same Apple ID, which I'm sure must be a pretty common use case in most families. The MacBook is my device so has my Apple ID setup (Actually it's my Apple ID configured for purchase and unfortunately I have a separate iCloud account as that's something Apple forced on original @me.com users and never came up with a solution to combine them into one!) but the iPad is my daughters main device so that has her iCloud account setup (with my Apple ID for purchases)

It's set up with Family sharing and some Screen Time controls, and I can see the device in Find My... so why can't I use it as a Sidecar display?

I guess only the great minds at Apple can explain that. In their wonderful world where everyone has a Apple laptop, tablet, phone, watch, t-shirt, socks, etc.

I think my household is pretty much locked in a Apple Ecosystem, with my FreeNAS server being the main exception, but even we share devices from time to time. I won't hold my breathe for Apple to fix this, as by the time they do, I suspect my MacBook or iPad won't be supported any longer. Maybe it's time to peer over the wall and see what else is out there?

It's crazy how specific some stuff can be. For example, look at the list of stuff required to get Apple Watch working with macOS security (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206995). They are going to start needing UIs soon to show that you've met all the requirements instead of just listing them...

you can change display arrangement under display settings after connecting to the ipad via sidecar

Thanks, I figured it out. Had to go to arrangement under normal display settings. They should put the setting under the sidecar settings as well.

Your Mac and iPad will be supported for quite some time. Also, Apple has been using Apple ID as a safe, simple and secure method for connecting iOS and macOS devices through Continuity, Hotspot, Handoff and, now, Sidecar for a while now. This is so not everyone can just decide to project their screen on your iPad just because it’s in range of their Macs. It’s also to allow certain features, like to turn on the iPad screen on directly from the Mac. A lot of things is going behind the scene to ensure things work as they should and Sidecar is, actually, very great.

You can log into your iCloud account on the iPad, or - if you don’t care much about security and privacy - you can peer over the wall and see what else is out there, since there is nothing for Apple to “fix” in this regard.

I spent just over 2hrs on the phone to Apple Care last night, all diagnostics have now been sent to Apple engineering as we were unable to get it fixed.
I was able to create a test user and get it working, but not on my everyday log in acct.

I can't connect my iPad pro with my MBP 2016 via usb-c cable (A miscellaneous error occurred (32002).), but they are working well via wifi. Anyone has the same issue?
