Apple just released the iPhone 4s and made Siri Personal Assistant only for the newly released iPhone.

Siri used to be an app available for the iPhone 4 and 3GS. Apple bought it out and disabled it from the previous users.

Siri is fully capable of functioning on the iPhone 4. Sign this petition if you want Siri available again to the iPhone 4 and 3GS.

I think this petition is dumb. But it's not like if they kept the Siri application for the iPhone 4 it would hinder iPhone 4S purchases.

Because the biggest difference between Siri on the iPhone 4, and Siri on the iPhone 4S is, on the iPhone 4 you have to open an application to use it.

SOL. Sell the 4 and buy a 4S.

These are one of the features that they need to keep iPhone 4S exclusive to increase their sales, they won't put it out on any previous iPhones, I'm sure of it.

I don't think sales is the only issue. Apple doesn't like releasing half ass products if they can help it, not just out of altruism but what it would do to their overall brand if they released products then poorly supported them. The reports I've heard are that yes, while Siri CAN work on a regular iPhone 4, it's noticeably laggy. If it's not consistently good performance, they're going to have to field lots of support calls on it and even if they don't replace ANY hardware or software, it still costs tons of money in terms of productivity and time and wages.

Not to mention it creates a very bad customer experience... which too many companies, except Apple (and fortunately my employer), find totally acceptable.

I can't begin to tell you the mayhem that ensues when one of our call centers gets 1000 people in a queue that only holds 250, and how pissed off customers get when 600+ of them get a busy signal. So, yeah, I'd rather just support software I *KNOW* will run on a platform with high enough minimum specs... unless you want to take those support calls, I'd gladly route them over to you... as long as you're willing to take the calls for free.

What reports? Apple would be the only one who would really know how it would run and you can't expect them to say "we made SIRI a 4S exclusive so we can sell more" any other "reports" are more like speculation.

From one the very same sites that claimed they got Siri running on an iPhone 4.

Not sure why you want to do this. The original Siri app on the iPhone wasn't nothing to write your mom about. I tried it for oh, about 5 minutes and then deleted it. Way too much of a pain in the ass to use.

Wasn't there just a video released of Siri working on an iPhone 4 and it was incredibly clunky, choppy, and SLOW? I'm talking about Apple's implementation of Siri within iOS, not the old app store app.

Online petitions very rarely work. Especially when it comes to Apple. They will do what they will do.

Siri, while probably will run on i4, is a feature of the i4S and that is what Apple are counting on i4 users upgrading to i4S, in order to get more sales. Had Apple made Siri available on iPhone 4 then I doubt they'd get as many upgrades, and prospective consumers may well have gone for the i4 instead of the S.

Yes it sucks, but its a sales strategy.

Yup, and then about an hour later there was a new video from the same dev that optimized his hack and it was running exactly the same smoothness as the 4s. It isn't available on the iPhone 4 simply to give the 4s something unique. It will run perfectly fine on the 4. All the heavy lifting is done on their servers. The phone is nothing more than a conduit.

It was definitely a business move by apple. This one just sucks for the users who just bought iphones in previous months.

There is still possibility for it to come out to other devices. It is a "beta".. You never know.

Just bought the white iPhone 4 3 months ago..

Well who the hell's fault is this? You bought an iPhone 12 months after the last release and get all shocked that the new one comes out not much later and has a new feature you can't use?

The buyers guide is your friend. Also, Apple is updating iDevices pretty much annually. If it's been 12 months since the last update, a new one is coming. Yes, this means a new iPad will come out in the first quarter of next year, so don't go buying an iPad 2 at Christmas if you want the latest and greatest when the iPad 3 comes out.

I think I should petition Dodge to put a Hemi in my truck. All the new trucks have it, so mine should too. I shouldn't have to go out and buy a new truck just to have a Hemi....

LOL! Wasn't there one of these for wallpapers and multitasking since iOS 1.0 (or iPhone OS as it was called back then). All this does is show Apple that it is a feature you care about. Apple don't care what you think is best, they tell you what is best for you.
