Opposite situation here. I stood in line to buy my wife one, and she thinks it's so cool that it's stupid for me not to get one, too.

And when a 16 gig 3G version comes out in '08, I'll agree with her!

But a phone is easily replaceable. A wife is not!

Depending on how often she gets in the way, she might be! I don't mind a well thought out discussion if we have other items we might spend the quarterly bonus on (just saying something is a waste of money doesn't cut it) but the bottm line is if I want to spend my money on it, I will spend it.

A marriage (or other living arrangement) is a partnership based on mutual respect. If she can't respect my ability to make a financial decision, whether she agrees with it or not, then behaps there is something wrong in the first place.

As long as all the bills are paid and there's money for the kid's (if you have any) college and retirement being planned for, spend as you wish.

Cheers,
Tim

I don't want to ever find a significant other.

I want to do what I want, when I want, how I want without concern for a significant other.

Do you not think, after you've had your fill of shallow women, you'll find yourself very lonely, or paying for very expensive prostitutes?! ;)

A woman need not be shallow to allow her mate the freedom to proceed as he wishes without undue discussion. He just will find such a mate more slowly... or as he says, more casual relationships/friendships may be all he requires.

In many cases a good friendship endures much longer than many marriages and friends rarely try to tell you what to do with your money (without you asking for their opinion).

Cheers,

With all this hype going on about the iPhone, I decided maybe I would get one. After a week of reading and thinking this would be the only thing I would have to carry with me that would replace my treo and iPod I decided this might be a good thing. So I find some stock locally in my area and call up the wife and say hey I think I'm going to get one of those iPhones, do you mind? Well she did mind and was really pissed. Granted I was going to just throw it on the old credit card and pay it off in the next few months like I normally do, mainly cause I could get some no interest purchases on some items with my credit card. She went on this speech about how I have to many gadgets I don't need a new phone, I just got the mac book pro, which was six months ago. I tried to explain to her that this would be something that would help me out a little bit more efficiently. But she just got mad. Frankly I just needed to vent and thought this would be a good topic for other folks as well.

It is not that I couldn't afford the iPhone, it isn't a money issue, but she is just not going to work with me on getting it. Not sure what her problem is on this. I don't really buy a lot of stuff, except for the occassional CD and the only time I really purchase anything is when it is something better. I just don't understand her on this one.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks for reading just needed to vent on this topic.

If she owns an ipod and phone, this is an easy solution ... somehow, accidentally, water will be spilled on both ... oh no. Well, they're ruined, but since you are a nice guy, you'll let her have your phone and iPod. And, hey, whaddaya know, the most cost effective way to replace both an iPod and a phone is to buy an iPhone. Problem solved.

(Note ... I mention this because my wife ruined her phone and iPod yesterday in a similar manner ... you might have a road test of this plan very soon.)
