I specifically inquired my local store about price matching despite ordering full price. They said they will price match it. Not exactly a big hurdle. The product listings’ descriptions also state full price: $999 and $1149 despite having to initially pay $100 more.

Best Buy doesn't deserve my (or your) business if you have to jump through hoops not to pay $100 OVER retail.

Their phone pricing has never made sense to me. Then again, if people are happily paying a $50-$100 premium why change it. I know in the past they would give people a gift card for the difference.

I tend to disagree with you on this but you could be right.
My question is how they will be charging the VZ account holder an upgrade fee since the phone will be activated with another sim and NOT the one the phone comes with? Basically the phone will never be activated on the VZ account but on say AT&T account....

In order to get the VZW version at pre-order tonight, you will have to tie it to an account before it will let you place the order. That account will get the fee, I believe. I don't have a VZW account, so I can not tell you for sure. If you go to the store and buy it outright, they dont make you give them account information so no upgrade feel

This is, unfortunately, 100% fact. Sucks for me because even though I have T-Mobile, I always buy the Verizon version for versatility upon resale.

If they don’t happen to suddenly offer a sim-free version at PO launch, I’m prepared to wait in line with another co-worker of mine on launch day.

It’s also NOT on EPP for employees which blows as the iPhone 8 was and they even allowed us to preorder before the general public for that. But now the X is suddenly the exception. Hate it all.

This is how it works: You using your friend's account and doing an "upgrade" using their phone number has no negative impact on them. You would be paying for the phone in FULL. You're not doing financing and Verizon doesn't do 2 year contracts anymore.

Like someone else said, when you receive the phone just put your SIM card in before you turn it on. There are literally no consequences to your friend by doing this. Your friend will continue using their phone like normal and their rate plan will remain the same. When you purchase a Verizon phone SIM-Free / Unlocked you're just paying it in full and are done with it.

It's the best way to get iPhone X because something tells me you won't be able to order online without entering carrier info for a while. Maybe Apple will allow you to reserve a Verizon model for in-store pickup and you pay in-store instead of online and won't have to enter any credentials.

We'll see.

I have a 2-year contract still with verizon because its being grandfathered in for my family. Im trying to buy the Iphone X for family in Asia. Can I use my account to buy it without having any changes to my account? Ill be paying the full price when i buy it.

Is there a way to find out when it’s available on EPP beforehand or do employees need to check this every other day now? Asking for a friend.. ;)

We have to check everyday. They literally had a townhall yesterday around noon to discuss things like EPP and employee first. Big wigs said no, not for this.

Just spoke with VZ. The upgrade fee is charged even if teh phone is never used on the VZ account. So for those wanting to use a friend's info, your friend will see $30 on the next statement regardless if the phone is used on the VZ account or not.

FYI, I just had Verizon support tell me differently, but obviously the rep may not know what they're talking about. I'll reimburse them if the stupid fee shows up. :(

I am on the same boat but ordered the T-Mobile version on launch day without any account information. However, I am thinking about going to the store this Friday to get a Verizon iPhone X for CDMA support. Does anyone know if the store will allow me to pay full price for a Verizon iPhone X without Verizon account?

I called three Apple Stores in my area and they all gave me different answers:
Store 1: I need a Verizon account to buy a Verizon iPhone X and they could create an account for me.
Store 2: I do NOT need any career account to buy a Verizon iPhone X in store
Store 3: They are not even sure if there would be iPhone Xs in stock this Friday

In my experience, you can walk in, pay full price and walk out without giving any personal information whatsoever. I did this with the iPhone 7 the Saturday after the launch - i.e. day 2. (I wasn't going for the Plus or Jet Black)

When I bought the iPhone 6 in store on launch day, I was simply asked which carrier version I wanted, swiped my card, and left. No one cared if I had a Verizon account or not. Anything changed during the past two years?

What is the difference between the ATT Unlocked full Price and Tmobile Unlocked full price? I got the ATT one and paid full price because that was the earlier option. I had to use my brothers ATT number.. Will I have any issues using it on cricket wireless? Do I have to get it unlocked from ATT

AT&T/T-Mobile = GSM Only
Verizon/Sprint (?) = GSM + CDMA

Most people want the Verizon version because it gives the best resale value when it comes time to sell it (IE anyone on an carrier can use it).

However do NOTE that a phone tied to an account (via online means) supposedly has a mandatory 3 month lock on release before it can be "unlocked" from an account. When I originally tried to purchase my 7, they didn't have a sim-free version at release. I was going to use my moms Verizon account, however I was told that even with buying (pre-order) it outright online that it wouldn't be truly unlocked until the device accumulated 3 months of service. Dunno if that's the case now or if that's changed or if I even got the wrong information.

So on launch day I just waited in line, and purchased the Verizon version without tying it to an account.

I believe Verizon devices are unlocked by law.

I believe Verizon devices are unlocked by law.

I'm hoping so for others sake. It crushed me last year to know that I couldn't pre-order, even at full price, without tying it to a "mandatory" 3 months service life first before taking it where I wanted. So, like this year, I'll be waiting in line to purchase it outright.

They REALLY need to get their purchasing strategy correct for people that don't want to tie it to an existing account when buying outright during pre-orders.

You guys know this? From a best buy forum...Is this true?

Just a quick notice, all iPhones sold outside of Apple Stores/Apple.com are subject to the US Reseller Flex Policy. More info can be found here:

So if you want your phone to be fully unlocked (assuming you bought the Sprint or Verizon version), you must initially insert a Verizon SIM for the activation, and then insert any other SIM you want afterwards.

More info here:

Just worth noting. Sorry for double post.

The 3 months is correct if purchased from the carrier directly even if paid in full. BUT, purchasing from Apple directly and paying in full will have it unlocked right out of the box.

Did it work, can you just walk in without your account info and get a verizon phone?

Not an X, but I did exactly this with an 8 Plus about a month ago. Walked into an Apple store, asked for a VZW 8 Plus. Swiped my card. They asked me if I want help activating the phone which I declined. At home I put the currently working Total Wireless SIM into the phone and booted it up. The end.

Thanks, I will drive out to the store and hope for the best.
