For Verizon subscribers who are activating their new Xs/XsMax tomorrow on launch day, Verizon is waiting on you. Here is screenshot of the Activate a device you already own page. If you sign into your online Verizon account first then go to Activate a device you already own page, it will have your new device already listed and ready (see screenshot) for you to activate.

If need further instructions they are available here: https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/activate-your-own-device/#add-device-to-existing

Wow really!! Not saying I don't believe you. I'm just wondering why Verizon would still maintain this page. That's very confusing.
[doublepost=1537476448][/doublepost]Ok I just received clarification. The link I gave is used if you want to use the SIM that comes with the new phone. If you want to use the SIM in your old phone, just switch and no activation needed. You are correct. Thanks.

what gets transferred on the SIM card? is it just the basic info regarding your account necessary to start using the new phone?

I’m confused can’t you just power it on and activate it tomorrow? If I activate it tonight does it drop my iPhone 7 service?

Yeah you don’t have to do this anymore. You can just put your old SIM card in the new phone and it’ll work instantly. I do this before even turning the phone on.

I’m on IUP so I’m not sure if I can just swap out the SIM and activate

UPS Already picked up my iPhone 8. Guess I'm going to a Verizon store which there isn't one locally just resellers.

I used the new sim on mine. It didn’t activate at first. But I called Verizon. Went through the automated system. Turned my old phone off. Power cycled my new phone. And was ready to go.

Ok just received the XsMax. I removed the SIM card that came with it and placed the SIM card from my iPhone X in the XsMAX. While Activation was occurring, I received the message that the SIM card in the XsMAX is not supported. It says try another SIM card. It's still trying to activate. Once it finishes (if it does), looks like I will have to use the SIM card that came with the phone and follow the steps to setup a new phone.

SWITCHING THE SIM DID NOT WORK!!!

I've never tried switching the sim either. I have the iPhone X and I have the iPhone XS Max waiting at home. I was going to try the sim swap but if it didn't work for you then I guess I'll just do it the way I have been. Has your iPhone been activated yet?

Right now it is setting up from the iCloud Backup of the old phone. So it did activate. I also just received email from Verizon thanking me for upgrading my plan, another indication that it activated. As soon as it is finished setting up I will see if the SIM is working.

I am restoring from a backup on my girlfriends computer. Is the best practice to restore, then go through the sim activation process? I have always set up as new so I apologize.

How do you load your Verizon info onto the E-SIM card, so that you can use the SIM tray for another carrier when you travel internationally?

OK after it finished setting up, the SIM didn't work. However I powered the phone off, waited a minute, then powered it back up. After that it worked!!

I wonder since I received the message earlier should I contact Verizon to see if my SIM somehow is limiting my phone?

Make sure you don't put the new SIM in your old phone. You should just take out your old SIM and put it in the new phone. Leave the old phone without a SIM. Then place both phones next to each other so the setup will go automatically. It will ask you if you want to use old phone to setup new phone. Say yes and follow instructions it gives.

I am lost, didn't you say switching SIM cards didn't work earlier?

Used the new sim. Switched off old phone. Called 877-807-4646 from my desk phone. Activated immediately.
