As for idisk. Hopefully some sort of solution emerges from Apple.

Me too. I tried SS and left after 4 mo- I did not have full control over my folders and albums as PDF files are considered images by them and even after users delete folders, the orphaned album files remain veiwable and can only be deleted by SS tech support. I didn't appreciate that SS forced PDF docs with personal info to be viewable as images in albums.

I hope DB improves to allow non account holders to access folders by URL and password but not holding my breath- still looking. Hope some company will mirror the SmugMug concept with PDF docs. Perhaps Google Docs has made some advances in that area since last I checked.
Thankfully I had MM last summer when I closed a mortgage and had 30+ PDF files in an iDisk folder for the bank, underwriter, title and closing agent to access. It would have been a nightmare to email all those individual signed files or file links.

DropBox will in all likelihood not do this. This is part of what got MegaUpload in trouble. And my guess is that if DropBox drops the account requirement, there will be a lot of copyrighted material illegally uploaded to DropBox.

For me, I have been happy with Dropbox over the past month as my iDisk replacement. No issues at all and for my use it works at least as well.

The one that I feel screwed on is the upcoming elimination of MobileMe Gallery. I have not found another replacement that can do:
1.) Photos
2.) Video
3.) Share those all with family and friends like MobileMe can on AppleTV2

Sure, I suppose I can somehow just direct videos to YouTube and Photos to Flickr, but what a pain in the @ss. I was more than happy to pay my $100 a year to have it all nicely in one place on MobileMe gallery and then be able to share and view with family members in other states especially on our AppleTV2 units. Photostream does not help for this.

I am pessimistically hoping Apple does a 180 on this decision.

Dropbox has a specific function for uploading and sharing photos including allowing for sideshows and downloading. I have a utility that suck my photos out of iPhoto including all the meta data and replicated them on Dropbox automatically. It is great. Not only keeps my photo org structure in synch, but also provides a back up and allows me to share them with anyone I want; they do not need to be Dropbox users to see my pics either.

pics sharing not supported on Apple TV

What a bummer! I just got an Apple TV for Christmas and was so disappointed with the photo set up connection choices. There is no painless way to connect family with large screen TV viewing across states. I have to type in the link. Goes back to my point that Apple is focusing on new product devices that require individual account syncing of all content on multiple devices. No one is offering selected content sharing across multiple user accounts. Perhaps someday they will have the answer on how to do this securely.
I suggested that Smug Mug be added to TiVo. I need to suggest they add Apple TV as well.
