Since I bought my iPad I only use my MacBook pro for syncing and doing my finances on.

Really thinking about selling it and buying a Mac mini instead, anyone else feeling the same?

I felt the same way for the first few weeks. But now I have found a balance and use them both equally. I use the Mac for heavy browsing and forum posts. The iPAd for quick information and games.

^this. This is why the iPad is NOT a replacement to a laptop or desktop computer. The iPad is crying out for multitasking which will definitely make it more convenient. I get dizzy switching between mail, browsing and IM on the iPad with all the screens fading in and out.

On the contrary, I do not use my MacBook at all anymore. I use my iPad for everything I do.

I also happen to think multi-tasking is almost a waste of time. It does the same thing switching apps normally does with a few exceptions. But that is just my opinion and nobody cares. :D

Yep, nobody cares, because multitasking will make the whole thing sooooo much better. It's a PITA to switch backwards and forwards to BeeJive every 20-30 seconds to reply to an IM, especially as you have to sit and look at the loading screen each time! Switching straight in without all that nonsense will at least bring the iPad somewhat closer to an actual PC.

I would probably use my iPad most of the time, however my wife feels the say way and I'm dead set on only buying one from this generation.

Jailbreaking and backgrounder sort out the multi-tasking issues, although I stopped frequenting IM long ago and just idle a few IRC rooms on Colloquy instead.

Apart from syncing, I only use my MBP sparingly. I also have a Mac Mini which is an always-on Mac server which I can VNC into.

I can see myself transferring any MBP-related operations to the Mini and saving the MBP for business road trips. :)

I'm in the same boat. iPad for the vast majority of my work. My powerbook hasn't be turned on since I got it. My Mac mini sits unused the majority of the time. Only boot it up on occasion now. Ipad has been great and is only getting better as new apps cone out.

Balance

I am waiting for my iPad to arrive, I own an iMac, Mac Mini, windows laptop and 3gs iphone. I am looking at phasing out my laptop for most things and to be honest i was gong to buy the iPhone 4 but i am feeling that once i get the iPad wont use the iPhone like i used to do

I sold my 13" MacBook Pro this past week. Using my Thinkpad as minimally as possible. And am on the hunt for a used IMac,but if I cannot locate a minimally used one at the correct price , I will wait until fall refresh. No real hurry, because it is almost summer and time to get out from behind the desk.

I only used my Macbook a few times during the first couple weeks I owned my iPad. Gradually though my iPad use went down and my Macbook use went back up. It got to the point where I was only using my iPad at night for an hour or two then down to once or twice a week. Last Friday I finally broke down and decided the iPad isn't a practical device for me so I sold it on CL. Don't get me wrong, it's a cool toy but it's not something that I need when I have a Macbook and an iPhone. BTW it only took an hour to sell the thing after it was posted on CL and I had 4 other people offer to buy it while the actual buyer was on their way to pick it up.

Around the house I'm always on my iPad and I usually sit it down around the kitchen/living room area. However, I don't think I can just live with the iPad. While the iPad is fully capable of browsing the forums, surfing news, watching videos, and reading emails, it can't replace the power and storage capability of a Mac desktop or laptop.

I'd like to think of my MBP as my portable base station where I do all of my main work and store everything.

My iPad is the gateway or portal where I can freely access everything in my MBP.

My N1 phone is the bridge between my MBP/iPad and the rest of the world. (Tethering, voice, and texting)

I am using my Macs just as much as I did pre-iPad. I love my iPad, but there is (by design) a ton of things the iPad just does not do as well (or at all) as a traditional computer. I prefer my iPad for web browsing, watching videos, casual reading (if I really need to concentrate on the words I have to go to paper), and light work -- quick notes and stuff that does take more than a few minutes. But when it comes to real work I need my Macs.

I will say this though -- my MBP is getting a lot less travel time these days.

I care, and what the other person described is serial tasking as as well. In almost ALL cases when someone describes MT, they describe a process that runs in the background to deliver music. The iPad already checks my mail while I'm doing other stuff, sends me push notifications etc, then I switch over and back. Same I'd do on my MB. There is no lag time.

It's not like the form factor is large enough to support multi app display simultaneously.

Exactly my experience. I wouldn't sell my pickup truck because the sports car I bought got me around town just as well. Different intended uses.

As I've said many a time, iPhone+iPad+iMac is the ultimate combo for most people.

Same with me - but I have a wifi ipad and ipod touch.

Haha I might as well post this pic here too. An iPad won't ever replace the full computing power of a macbook or imac obviously, but you'd be surprised at what it can do. I still use my mac pretty heavily to make my wifi iPad complete enough to keep me going on the go in terms of work and play. (no 3g hurts sometimes, but it is easier on my wallet).

iMac iPad iPhone ... i3

The trinity of home computing and all round mobility.

Less savvy tech heads call me geek or fanboi, well screw em iGot what iGot and iLove it all.

That's only because you don't use too many apps that are not available on the iPad. Replacing your MBP with a mini won't make you use OS X more often. All it will do is restricting your future use to non-mobile. As for saving some money, did you even check how much your used MBP is worth? and how easy it is to actually find someone to buy it?

I own a brand new iMac, iPad and iPhone and the iPad has replaced everything else for most day to day uses such as entertainment, note taking and surfing. The iMac really only works in a media server capacity now or to burn discs, makes me wish I'd bought a Mac Mini to be honest!

I sold my MacBook a week before the iPad came out I have used nothing but the iPad.

It's a challenge trying to find that perfect medium between using a notebook and and the iPad. What ive found myself doing, since multitasking isnt out yet is just performing simple tasks on the ipad. Quick browsing, a peek at my email, maybe a movie from netflix in bed! Other than that i hate to neglect taking advantage of the money i spent on my MBP.
