Since updating today to 15.2 this screen mirroring icon shows as blue and says I am extending my screen to my display (the only one connected via HDMI).

I am using a samsung odyssey ark as a monitor and did not have this issue before today.

Is this a new feature, a bug, or something I can fix?

Thanks

I have the same problem, and this bug seems also preventing me to mirroring Mac screen to my iPad (maybe Apple TV airplay also has problem, but I don't have one)

Nope
Are you using Bartender by any chance? I have a permanent blue dot because my screen is ‘being recorded’.
Nope, it seems like a bug when the display is being detected as a TV in MacOS. I followed a post on reddit which said to use better display to force MacOS to see the display as a display and after a reboot the screen mirroring icon was gone.

Man, what a stupid solution... I don't have another display, and I don't want to get an better display for just fix this bug.

I have this bug too with a single external display (32" 4K) connected via DP to a Mac Studio.

Please make sure that y'all report this to Apple so it hopefully gets fixed soon™.

Hardly, I changed the setting as per the post and removed the app and the box has not appeared. Cost me $0 to do this.

🤬 my external 32” display via direct HDMI cable just says “Choose to Mirror or Extend Display from the 🔳 (double square monitor) menu” but the menu isn’t showing up on my 16” MBP display for me to even click it to get to the monitor settings. 🤦🏻‍♂️ So I can’t even use my external monitor now! Ughhhhhh!

I did call Apple Support and spent an hour talking with them. We tried multiple different solutions to resolve the problem, including resetting my monitor all the way back to factory settings. I was able to get a picture on the display. It still acts as if I’m Airsharing from my MacBook to my display that’s physically connected via HDMI cable. Every time I reboot, I have to re-synchronize the monitor currently. While this will work for now. It is not a permanent solution and it appears that the macOS team will have to investigate the problem. I believe there’s an issue with how the macOS is now synchronizing EDID information to some monitors.

Guys, check with different monitor. For with a different monitor is ok. Only with ultrawide monitor is happening for me.
That looks like driver monitor issue. Tomorrow I have scheduled a call with Support. I will get back to you after that.

Nah, 32" 4K display here in boring 16:9. No issues before updating to 15.2.

This problem began happening for me after I used the AVP screen mirror. I have 2 DP displays and 1 HDMI display connected to my Mac Studio and one of the DP displays will sometimes ask me to extend or mirror a display. Quite frustrating that it's my main display of the three. I can extend the desktop to this display, but this is clearly a malfunction and not intended behavior.

Do you by chance have a link to the reddit post?

Or... can you describe step-by-step what you actually did?

Same on LG 38wk95c. No difference which port using (type-c or hdmi).

The funniest thing is that if you enable the "picture in picture" mode on the monitor (when only half of the monitor is given to one input), Mac OS stops considering this monitor as "mirrored".

Imma try connect typical LG 4k 27inch display, the bug was not encountered.
I also noticed that the fonts on the regular 4K seem to have become clearer and everything looks like native resolution without weird scaling. The fonts even look better than on the 3840 x 1600 monitor, which is "approved" by Apple.
How long ago was the scaling repaired?

Everything is still working for me no purple box and I can use true tone which I could not before.

Same here, M4 mini with a ViewSonic XG320U monitor using HDMI. I hope Apple is going to fix it with the next update.
