After new Siri activated, writing tools is always greyed out. Guess it’s not working in this first beta?

How does Siri AI behave when offline and limited to on-device models?

I would love to learn what needs cloud and what doesn’t.

And has anyone tried Settings > Privacy > Apple Intelligence Report yet?

Has anyone figured out a way to overcome the bug where Siri asks you to unlock your iPhone when making phone calls while connected to a car's Bluetooth? It's annoying not to mention unsafe while driving. Surprised this one made it out of internal testing without this being identified.

The pace and expressive sliders are still disabled but I'm almost certain the voices were more cheerful (and somewhat sarcastic) like old school GPS or Macy commercial VO. Today, it sounded more grounded but also kinda depressed.

Pretty impressed, actually! I've been asking it stuff I normally wouldn't bother just to see. I've also been asking ChatGPT the same (sorry environment), and Siri's been doing better.

I asked what a random song playing quietly in the background of a TV show was (I gave season, episode, and a brief description of the scene - it wasn't a Shazam thing, just a question once I paused), and Siri got it (and also gave me a scene spoiler...) while ChatGPT had no idea.

I was also on Twitter and someone had posted an image of a bunch of early 2000s singer logos - some had their names, some were just images. I asked Siri what the logos on screen are, and it listed out all of them correctly.

My friend sent me a... questionable link to the Demon Hunter movie when it leaked - I just asked "Where did XX tell me to watch the Demon Hunter movie" and it found the text and the link for me.

So just random stuff, but it seems to be handling it all pretty well so far!

Should also compare with Gemini since that's what it's based off of.

I got in yesterday, played with it a little and switched it off.

It can be extremely slow when your internet connection is unstable.

It was very useful populating my calendar events for months ahead using natural language.

It looks very pretty.

I toggle "allow Siri when locked" and "type to Siri" quite often, almost daily. When I enabled Siri AI the legacy Siri settings section changed and no longer lists these toggles. I'm not sure what my last set up was but Siri AI would constantly ask me to unlock my iPhone in order to complete my request. Reverting back to the current Siri didn't bring back the toggles but I'm sticking with it for now as it's more reliable for setting alarms, playing music and calling/texting people. I also find it affected the whole os stability somehow. I'll wait for now and see what the next beta brings. Also, feedback submitted.

I asked it when my cousin’s wedding is, using just her first name, and it found the email detailing the schedule of events (gathering the night before, wedding, and reception). I told it to add them to the calendar, and it added all three, complete with appropriate titles, times, and locations (although just the name of the locations as the addresses were not provided in the email).

I use an app called Narwhal to browse Reddit. I use an iPhone Air most of the time, but sometimes I pull out my XS Max for nostalgia purposes or just to experience pre-liquid glass design. The problem is, I wanted a 4-icon navigation bar on the Air and a 5-icon navigation bar on the XS Max. Google failed me. I couldn’t figure it out on my own.

Siri solved it for me! Had to turn iCloud sync off for the XS Max and modify the nav bar after allowing all the other settings to sync over.

However, Siri also provided this data earlier in the afternoon…

You see the problem here is that Siri is a modern chatbot that doesn’t use 19th century measurements 😉

So far so good. I probably wouldn’t use the chain conversations in real life but it was able to pull up a hotel I stayed at last year, list all nearby restaurants and then remind me to ring one of them when it opened to book a reservation. I was then able to ask it to move all my Friday reminders to Monday en-masse and it just did it.

Animations are a bit choppy but then it’s the first beta so there are bound to be flaws. Syncing between devices works really well though.

any way to disable the Siri AI at the top of a search window when you pull your finger down the screen?

I’ve been very happy with it for the most part except it now can’t do stuff that old/dumb Siri could. I was walking earlier with AirPods in and I asked to play a playlist and it just kept saying there was a problem.

I'm having so many issues that I'm considering downgrading. I turned off Siri and then turned back on to see if that fixes things. When I turned it back on, it asked if I wanted the beta Siri or downgrade to previous Siri.

The issues I'm having:

  1. Probably the most interesting. Asked Siri to send a text to a friend saying "Funny, he hasn't responded to the text yet." Siri's response on multiple times trying to send it? "Did you mean zero zero zero BT plus Chris or zero zero one BT plus Chris?" I'm sure that's some sort of internal code.
  2. Frequently asking it to do things that were routinely done with the old Siri without needing to unlock my phone now asks me to unlock my phone. Calling people (when driving mode was enabled automatically), sending text messages, etc.
  3. Frequently asking me to confirm if I'm ready for Siri to call someone when I ask Siri to call someone.
  4. When I ask to play my favorite songs, Siri would never play from my favorite songs playlist. Instead, Siri would play a Taylor Swift or Wheezer (I think) song with favorite in the title.
I just asked Siri to play my favorite songs and my first favorite song in my playlist started playing. Hopefully turning it off and back on has fixed my issues.

EDIT: #2 and #4 seem fixed after disabling then reenabling Siri. #3 is still happening unfortunately. Can live with that for now. #2 was a showstopper when you're driving.

The release notes say this is a known issue.
This is a huge issue for someone who texts with Siri while driving. I ask her to call Mari. And she responds with " did you mean Mari, Mario, mart or Maria?" Very annoying. Feel like this simple task should be an issue or bug.

So far not impressed.

I love being able to ask Siri in the Shortcuts app to make a new one. I asked Siri to create a shortcut to import all my photos from the Files app into the Photos app (in collections), preserving the original folder names. Siri did it perfectly and is doing the importing, creating a folder in collections and importing the original photos just fine.

I downgraded because I don't like the new UI. It's glassy dark mode everywhere. I loved the glowing colorful border that the current Siri has. I loved how bright and cheery all the UI seemed. Now it's all dark and gloomy, even replacing the frosted glass Spotlight on my Mac. The "increased intelligence" is not worth it to me to go from a UI that I enjoyed to one which I hate on the devices that I interact with all day.

I have’nt specifically tried this shortcut, but i tried creating other shortcuts and it was faster than me.

I still don’t have Siri AI, my iPad is still indexing and its on waitlist, but that new shortcut functionality seems to be working, without Siri AI

Rate your overall experience with the new siri and share times where it has been useful 🙂
What new Siri AI is actually the old “AI” assistance. Personally I no longer need it anymore. From my usage with few LLM (Claude, ChatGPT), it’s unique characteristics are 1) it has to have its own initiative and 2) it can make its own decision (or reduce options into a few only). I didn’t see these two much in Siri AI demo. Probably, this is Google’s strategy to limit its capabilities - otherwise it will compete with Gemini.

so good seeing as it's beta 1. it's made me stop using gemini app and photo editing is really great.

onscreen awareness is a deal breaker and huge.

It's of course a beta but my experience so far has been pretty disappointing with a lot of errors and inaccuracy. Simple things like asking it to find a calendar entry don't work and its a 50/50 for most requests as to whether it just fails for some reason. Hopefully with more use will come more sucess.
