I make no distinction between a person using data by manually transferring things and a person using data by setting up their phone to transfer things automatically.Just becuase the phone uses more data doesn't mean people are usig it more. That could easily be chalked up to iCloud etc.

In any event, iCloud is available to iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 users as well. If iCloud is responsible for the increased data usage of the iPhone 4S, which is much more plausible than Siri, then it's still the case that 4S buyers are more likely to use iCloud than owners of previous iPhones. The difference is in the usage pattern, not the device or its software.
Not to mention, you're saying Siri, an application that sounds out audio data streams for remote interpretation, is not a data heavy application ?
Then whats the point in getting a smartphone?
iCloud doesn't backup over 3G.
I think you guys are talking about different things.yes it does by default. it backs up app data over 3g unless you turn it off.

It looks like Intell is talking about the daily full iCloud backup (which AFAIK can't be done over 3G, period), whereas you're talking about the syncing of Documents and Apps data.
by default both of these are set on on
