The beep was so much better. sigh...

Better how? People either started talking before the beep which made Siri understand half of what they were saying or they would press the mic icon and cancel the "listening" part and talk after the cancel beep. People I tell you, they are not so good at things.

If they put a small button in settings, everyone will be happy. And they could say that they are doing something like this, it is realy confusing.
While something like that would be good, there are quite a few similar types of things that could have used a setting option for years now without those being ever added. I guess what I'm saying is that it seems like this was a deliberate change and while it can certainly be changed again it's not really something to expect.

I miss the beep. I use Siri a lot after I've gotten in bed at night with the lights out. I talk to the phone on its stand, so I can't feel the vibration, and just have to assume it's ready to listen.

I wouldn't dream of using Siri in public (unless it's for the benefit of a group of us), so removing the beep to make it less obtrusive seems kind of silly.

It should be an option to leave the beep on. Many people use hands-free while they are in the car and the beep allowed them to know when Siri was listening. I also use Siri all the time on my motorcycle, and now without the beep I am not sure how well it will work.

As I recall the sound should still be there when using it hands-free.

It's by design. It's less obtrusive to people around you in public. There is no need for an audio cue if the phone is in your hand and you can feel the two quick taps (vibration.)

You will still get the audio cue if you are on Bluetooth speakers (like in a car) and or use "Hey Siri" and also with headphones (since surrounding people will not hear it.)

The reason iPads will beep still in all situations is because it doesn't have vibration.

I get that however when you're driving and want to make a call it's confusing as to whether Siri is "ready". Also, once you say your command to... let's say call "John Smith Mobile", Siri replies anyway with "Calling John Smith Mobile". It was better the other way --OR-- give the option.
