I like to >think< that if Jobs was still here he'd be stomping the halls to get Siri in shape.

That might be a romantic thought only. The fact is, it's absurd that HomePod cannot do Siri features that exist on other Apple devices that have Siri. This is true of other devices that support Siri as well. HomePod is the most neutered however.

I say again, Siri should be as desired, and in demand, as iPhone. Tim. WAKE THE 'F UP. Enough politics. Get back to work.

You want to be a trillion dollar
company or a multi trillion dollar company?

Siri, when compared to the competition, is horribly neutered anyway. Not really sure that you can blame this on Cook's political statements though. Every company has to play that game if they want to succeed.

I don't see Bezo's or whoever runs Google in the news yapping about political positions as much as I see Cook. He needs to focus back on Apple.

And you have no evidence that Apple isn’t focused, as “focused” is subjective and not defined by your logical fallacy.

Given Apple's nortorius secrecy I think it's fair to say us plebs are totally clueless on anything Apple are working on. All we can do is look at the now, and for me, the now is that Siri seems, for whatever reason, underwhelming.

That said, this would not be the first time a company has come from behind and taken the lead in a particular technology. May not be this year, may be next, but it is possible that they may be working on some sort of Siri II that totally blows the socks off the current technology but is perhaps incompatible with the current Siri infrastructure.

Or they could just be blowing their lead.

There's a part of me that really hopes they care about something else besides the phones that are making them trillions. It might just be a dream though.

I want Apple to deliver on the promise its alway had. It will be very hard for them to see past their incredible success to honor that, though. (I fear)

Phones and tablets are the new PCs - and by that I mean that we're reaching some sort of saturation point where Apple's going to have to pivot onto something else. Software and services would seem to be where they're going, wether that be a new Siri, or original programming.

Can't help wondering if the Apple 5 years hence is more of a soft than hard company - still making hardware, but where their prime focus is on all things as-a-service...

I would like to see more Siri integration with the OS. At the same time, I don’t want it to be at the expense of security.

I agree with you, that Apple could surge ahead of the tech race with the next big Siri feature. Only time will tell what direction Apple takes.

<I> really believe the home assistant is, the near current, and for sure next, "killer" app. It's what people will care about. Not thin bezels. Not lightweight phones. Not battery life. The personal digital assistant.

I believe many of us who use and buy Apple want Apple to continue to do well in all areas, so that we can continue using products that make our daily life a little more managed, practical and fun. The problem is that not everyone agrees on the paths to the end objective.

And I can't help think your assumption may be close to hitting the nail on the head. An unfettered automation system is a scary thought indeed and it's the reason the TiggrToo household is sans any any Google home or Alexa devices (no Siri either, but that's because I find her somewhat impotent at the moment).

Nope, I'm waiting to have an automation assistant that's as loyal and secretaive as butler, and not one that'll tattle to the first advertiser or law enforcement agency it can when pushed.

there
Personally, I avoid Siri because even though I have damaged vocal chords, Siri seldom performs finding tasks and files as excepted. And those sci-fi movies such as “Her, sleeper, blade runner” should deter humans from improving AI
But my cousin talks to Siri more than his wife.

He needs to go. Him focusing more on Apple will only make things worst.
[doublepost=1529847810][/doublepost]Siri is a complete joke compared to Alexa. Why bother wishing for a better Siri when Amazon will continue to sneak Alexa into more and more of iOS as time goes on? The Lexi app is a sign of things to come.

I find it weird that people say they're not focusing on AI when their recent hiring and acquisitions would paint a different picture. They're not snatching up AI and Machine Learning companies for laughs. They didn't hire Google's AI Chief because they liked his smile.

No, they hired him for his lovely singing voice.

The only way is for it to have internet access is a joke, particually if its something *only local you need* to ask

Siri should locally know what you are trying to perform... It should know what apps are on the phone, and which ones you add/or compatible with..

This won't take up much in term of storage. Leave calling home siri for lookups Internet" only. and local stuff "local only" no internet needed.

But everyone like to take the most convenient route.. e.g if its on our servers fully, we always cotrol updates.

No, they hired him for his lovely singing voice.

for his lovely singing voice ? yuk.
