Weren't you gushing over Dead Space on the iPad a few weeks ago? What happened?

He must have just turned 17

Hopefully the next step into adolecence is maturity.

Games on XBOX: for 16 year olds.

Dead space on iPad: best game ever.

When you have no argument and can find nothing more to throw, just get personal.

Indeed. That's the entire point.

Word processing, e-book reading, internet, e-mail, note-taking, video recording, photography, photo-editing, movies, a library of over 500,000 apps, and gaming, and probably a lot that I've missed, all from a device that's just 9.50 inches high, 7.31 inches wide, and weighing just a shade over a pound, with a smooth touch-based interface you can enjoy practically anywhere.

That is what is impressive. Not Dead Space, but Dead Space on that.

And as for the general demographics for gaming consoles:

http://www.emarketer.com/Article.aspx?R=1007055

. . . the most-active console users fit the stereotype—male, ages 12 to 17 with annual household income of $70,000 or more. They mostly played PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Next time, think about whether you're responding (the way you are) because I'm wrong, or because you just find the truth unpalatable.

Thanks.

So you've gone from a throwaway comment like this (which to me reads as a thinly veiled attempt to dig at gamers at the expense of giving Microsoft any kind of credit):
Games are fun. Sometimes I wish I was 16 again.

To some statistical analysis from December 2008 which is limited to the United States? Why wasn't this essential data included in your original reply?

If you look at the very data you provided, 58.1% of gamers are over 16. Looking at it that way, you don't need to be 16 to play.

Lets look at some other newer "statistics" yes?

http://www.theesa.com/facts/index.asp
Seventy-two percent of American households play computer or video games.
The average game player is 37 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.
The average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 41 years old.
Forty-two percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (37 percent) than boys age 17 or younger (13 percent).
In 2011, 29 percent of Americans over the age of 50 play video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.

http://www.industrygamers.com/news/social-game-players-average-age-below-30-says-survey/
A recent study conducted by Gamesindustry.com and TNS says that the average age of social network gamers is below 30 years old in the U.S., Germany, France and the U.K., while 29 percent are under 20. The “Social Gaming Monitor” analysis, which polled 13,000 respondents aged 8 years old and up, also found that eight percent of U.S. social gamers are above 50, while Europe is even lower with four percent.

An out of date surrvey from 2008 does not equate to truth and there was no way I would have been able to deduce that you were referencing that survey with such a thow-away comment.
How about next time you clarify your position better in your posts so your point comes across better?

Thanks.

Your source is a dataset weighted by hours used. Is it possible the 12-17 demographic is able to spend more hours gaming because they have more free time than adults? Hmmmm

Meanwhile, according to Flurry (which is a biased source but I'm linking it since you cite it a lot), the average console gamer's age is 34 and the average mobile gamer's age is 28. The average mobile gamer is also a female. So according to your logic you must be a 28 year old female.

The xBox(and PS3, Wii, etc) are more appliances then they are personal computers.

The fact that their hardware doesn't change as often is helpful, people don't need to worry about spending money to keep their hardware to play the most recent games* While PCs give users more control, the advantage of not worry about hardware upgrades as often means you can play more games. Plus the hardware is very advanced for the price it launches at, if the companies didn't sell the consoles for so long, the hardware would either be less advanced or more expensive.

*There are a few cases, like the Motion Plus for the Wii , PS Move and Kinect which you need for some games, but largely, a console from launch should play the most recent games.
