Same happens with my setup. M1Max MBP14 in clam mode, OS12.2.1. It's connected to 2 NEC monitors via OWC Thunderbolt 4 Hub through one of the TB ports and OWC Thunderbay Flex 8 to another TB port.

However, the panic happens only when connected to Thunderbay Flex 8. None of the disks are in RAID. No issues with the Thunderbolt hub and monitors. Also, data transfer speed falls precipitously after restart (for example, Samsung 970EVO 1TB M2 SSD: 1100MB/s Write and 1500MB/s Read slows to below 200MB/s read and write and gets worse with each restart unless I eject the drives in Flex 8 and reconnect).

I thought it was SoftRaid causing issues but today, it happened even after I have completely uninstalled the software, since none of the disks currently are in RAID array.

same issue here .. M1 iMac running Big Sur 11.6.4 (hesitant to upgrade to monterrey due to sound card compatibility though it doesn't seem that OS would make a difference anyway) .. mine happens when i disconnect a Lacie thunderbolt RAID drive - mac goes to sleep and when i try to wake it it either freaks out / panics or has died completely and requires starting up again .. same iterations of error messages usually around "Sleep transition timed out after 35 seconds while calling power state change callbacks" ..

been on phone twice to apple support who were unaware of the issue (but will send them this thread next time i speak with them) - tried multiple configuration adjustments and kernel extension deletions etc etc etc .. issue persists.. the conclusion on their side was that its probably a third party issue.. reading this thread it doesn't seem that way at all

I spoke again with Caldigit today and they confirmed that that are taking to Apple.

I had encouraged them because Apple will take more notice of a key manufacturer than us mere mortals.

Interestingly, I've been getting this issue without any USB hub being connected. I wonder if CalDigits pushing will help get this resolved more generally?

Me too. M1 MacBook Air running 12.4 beta, two daisy-chained ThunderBay 4s running SoftRAID via a Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter from Apple, then terminating with an OWC Thunderbolt Drive Dock populated with two SSDs. The other port goes to a new LG 34WK95U 5k2k display connected via Thunderbolt.

Constant spin downs and spin ups unless I use Amphetamine Drive Alive. Panics and restarts overnight when left on, or when I shut down, or when I restart. It’s a freaking MESS. I’ve been working with the developer of SoftRAID for months on this. It’s definitely not SoftRAID. It’s Apple.

So after trying all the 4 steps. (only in secure mode the issue was not there), I contacted apple support again, which told me to install mac os completely new (making a backup first ofc). Since then the issue has not appeared again, yet.
I wiped and reinstalled but the problems persisted for me. This was while on 12.4 beta though.

Yep you were on a Beta project, are you a developer? I ask because their seems to shortage inn Mac Programmers because most shareware made today in STILL Intel ONLY still today! They are fast becoming like the dinosaurs just before the astroid killed them!

This must be a bug as I had a similar issue with the same panics only last week.

I resolved it by restarting in Safe Boot and then back in normal boot.

I have been having the same problem with my base-model 14" MBP 2021 on the latest MacOS Monterey 12.4. The kernel panic is the following:

panic(cpu 1 caller 0xfffffe001c4208d4): Wake transition timed out after 35 seconds while calling rootDomain's clients about completed rootDomain's state changes.

Normally I use an external monitor, a type C converter for the ethernet cable, and the Magsafe 2. That is all. I can not get rid of the issue. This is what I so far tested and not helped me:

- plugging off the HDMI cable before I put the device to sleep
- plugging off both the HDMI and the ethernet type C converter before the sleep
- plugging off all cables including Magsafe before the sleep
- turning off the wifi before the sleep
- turning off the bluetooth before the sleep
- turning off both wifi and bluetooth before the sleep

So you see, I find no solution to this issue and this makes me really angry and upset.
I can not understand why Apple has released these M1 chips with this major bug.
We are lots of people experiencing the same annoying problem.

Nice to discover that I'm not alone. Initial configuration was 2018 15.4" MacBook Pro i7 with Caldigit TS3+ and LG 5k 34" Ultrafine. Wired Ethernet & USB devices kept dropping out every couple of hours and had to keep rebooting the Caldigit. That was replaced under warranty - same issue persisted. Then switched computers to an M1 Pro Max, and not only did the Ethernet and USB problems persist, but I started getting these kernel panics on a daily basis. Pretty poor support from Caldigit, so I swapped it out for a Razer Thunderbolt 4 dock a few weeks ago, and updated the monitor firmware at the same time. The Ethernet & USB issues have gone away (good), but I occasionally find that the LG monitor won't wake up or, if it does, at completely the wrong (and unchangeable) resolution - then needs a reboot to work. And, last night, I had the first "Sleep transition timed out after 35 seconds while calling power state change" kernel panic (Core 1) since buying the Razer. My monitor is approaching the end of its warranty period, so has anyone got a definitive(ish) answer as to whether there might be a monitor issue?

The problem still might be the MacBook itself. It is because I have been having the same kernel panic, even though no monitor is attached to my computer.

There is no exact correlation I have found yet. When the computer stays at sleep with no physical connection to any USB-C or HDMI etc., I check it in the morning and see the kernel panic. So if there is no connection and if I still get the issue, I guess it has nothing to do with the monitor or the dock etc.

I still consider this kernel panic issue a MBP issue, either hardware or software.
So I advise you not to blame your monitor. Probably even your dock station is okay.
We are dozens of people having this kernel panic issue, do you think all of us have problematic monitor or dock? I do not think so. Probably we have some software-related problems on our Macbooks. However I do not know when Apple finds this out.

It could be a lot of things, but after two main board replacements in my LG 5k monitor and a replaced logic board in my M1 Macbook Air, the problem persisted until I read the manual for my OWC thunderbolt dock that advises not to place the dock close to a "television" because it will create RF interference. I had mine positioned directly under the monitor. When I moved it away, of course necessitating longer cabling, the problem was solved. When the monitors were introduced, they realized they didn't use enough RF shielding inside and so added some, but the temporary fix for very early production was to move any modem away from the monitor. My original modem/gateway was mounted below my desk towards the floor and apparently was not the issue. I replaced that modem with a new ATT BGW320-500 Wifi 6 modem/gateway which finally was attractive enough to allow my aesthetic sensibilities to position it on the top of my desk, where it is only about 2 feet from the LG. However, I noticed in checking the connections, which face to the back as does the monitor, when I turned the unit around to check the connections and the rear panel pointed at the side of the LG, it immediately caused the LG to start blanking on and off again. There is an RF shield that covers the main board in the monitor. I suspect RF was getting around that board somehow. My guess is that regardless of the running change to the monitor during early production to add RF production, the unit, which is now approaching 8 years old in terms of design and thus in Apple's lingo "obsolete", simply was never designed from the start with robust enough RF shielding. Or it also could be that new peripherals are generating stronger RF. So make sure anything that you have near the monitor that can generate RF is away from the unit and isn't aiming any RF at it. By doing this and getting rid of any RF generating products I really didn't need on my desk, I was able to stop short of buying an expensive RF meter to troubleshoot further or trying to add shielding fabric to the outside of the monitor and all the other RF generating stuff in the room, including power cords.

The Apple service center said my logic board was bad and replaced it. I know RF was definitely causing the monitor blanking and computer crashing problem, but it could have been both issues or the crashing could have affected the logic board. No way to know for sure.

Really?
That sounds pretty interesting. I have never thought of this. But this also supports the setup I have on my desk at home.

Near the MBP, I have one HDMI monitor, a HDMI splitter (2 input, 1 output, for PS4 and MBP to change the input), and I have a Xiaomi wireless modem. So if you say so, I guess I have to try the same thing you did, to remove any RF-generating material out of the monitor area.

This sounds pretty interesting and I am really curious to try in advance.

Actually this is the thing now I am trying to avoid. I hope we do not have any hardware issue, because I do not want to give my computer to Apple for a hardware operation. I hope this does not happen, because we even do not know if it is the hardware problem or not.

I do not think it is hardware issue as there are dozens of people having the same problem. This might be a software-related thing, if your RF-topic does not work.

Is there any known solution to this problem or further information? I'm also impacted by it, recently went from a ?2016 macbook pro to an m1 macbook pro and new LG monitors (same doc etc) and this issue has been occurring every day when I try to use sleep.

Did you make the MacOS software updated?

I had the issue for a long time after I got my MBP 2021 14", but now, it seems it has been resolved with the Monterey 12.5

Interesting. After the software update, I have not encountered with the issue yet.

Did you even restart your PC at least once?
You may also try to reset SMC etc. to check if it makes a difference.

I do not know what the real problem is, but in my case, it has been resolved by updating the MacOS to the latest update. I also tested mine with and without the monitor connected, with and without a USB-C peripheral connected. So far, no problem exists which I am glad.

Ill try the SMC, restart the MAC? Well... it restarts itself right? 🤷‍♂️
