What would really work best is if they would figure out that:
  1. Their slide to unlock is gone. Gone. It's not coming back.
  2. TouchID is the very manifestation of a faster and more secure way to unlock their phone than the previously mentioned method.
  3. Just because you haven't ever lost your phone does not mean that you will not in the future. If you have ANY sensitive data on your device, why wouldn't you want the extra added layer of security that does not impede at all in your ability to unlock your device.

Final thought - Why are people so resistant to this? If you had no passcode and used slide to unlock that took 5 seconds to open your device and I told you that I could give you a nearly instantaneous method to unlock your device that not only required no movement AT ALL but also added an extra layer of security, why wouldn't you do it? I'm honestly curious to know.

I never thought I needed a passcode before but now I use one mainly cause it's way easier to get the phone unlocked by pressing home and it opens. How difficult is that? Way better than waking phone up and needing to swipe. Might take a little getting used to but it's a no brained how much quicker and easier Touch ID is compared to the old swipe method... plus if u have personal stuff on your phone it's a no brained to protect it whether you think you will lose it or not...

My kids iPads don't have passcodes so they just have to press home twice and their in.. easy peasy...not a single complaint lol

Going straight to an app from a notification still works. I know that may not be specifically what OP wants but it's worth noting as it isn't very obvious.

An, yes, that functionality remains there as it was before.
