I was also having a problem once I got to the Voipover3G edit part. I believe I edited the .plist file, but still couldn't get it to work. Then I found a program called Tricker ThreeG on Cydia that was free and worked instantly with Sling and Skype. For anyone who's OK with jailbreaking but not comfortable with the whole SSH...text edit thing this is a quick solution.

And now I'm enjoying slinging over 3G!!! AT&T can bite me!!!

did you have to delete VoIPover3G for this one to work?

maybe we need to change some setting on voipover3g?
maybe it's the format of the file? did you also use Iphonebrowser? most of the folks who have gotten it working are using something else.

you also have to have the latest mobile substrate......

No, it seemed to work the first time but I then did delete VoIPover3G because I didn't want any conflict.

Im still having the same problem, it says connecting then this message pops up " SlingPlayer cannot connect to your Slingbox. Please make sure your phone and Slingbox are connected to the Internet and try again." (which both are true) and when i switch to wifi it works just fine...why is this?

I read this in another post...will try when I get home but could explain the problems everyone is having

My issue was with 2.2.1 - if you are running 2.2 or greater, you must install "Backward Compatibility" for mobile substrate layer before installing VOIPOVER3G. If you forget, just uninstall, then reinstall after. (remember to re-mod your .plist if you uninstall/reinstall).

this did the trick - thank you sir.

now if i can only figure out how to get the stream's display ratio closer to ideal (see attached pics). it either has the correct ratio 16:9 with black bars on BOTH the top and bottom, or it's stretched vertically.

i have the newest slingbox pro HD hooked up via component.

Do you read? Check my earlier post if you want this thing to work over 3g...this is for voipover3g

Here, I'll make it even easier....

Make sure that you also have the latest firmware for your slingbox AND that you have setup your slingbox and router for internet viewing. The slingbox needs a dedicated port (mine was 5001) to communicate with devices outside of your network that are not PC/Mac based.

After I updated my slingbox firmware and opened a port I could start using the 3g connection with the Iphone slingplayer.

Hope this helps!

Alex, thank you so much thats what it was...for some reason i had to reset the slingbox's internet streaming, now it works fine over 3G, this is awsome! thanks again =)

I believe the iPhone's screen isn't 16:9... hence, you'll have black bars with media.

Please help!

I have no idea how to SSH into my phone to alter the plist file...Can someone please provide me instructions (including what programs to download), with a full step-by-step, idiot proof description? I would really appreciate it...

Please do not tell me to google this because most guides assume the user has some sort of experience with SSH...i don't..i just need to do this one time to get sling to work over 3g...give me one easy way...

OK, here's what I did.

1. Jailbreak. Lots of instructions on the web to do this. Very easy.
2. Go to Cydia (installed after jailbreak) and search for Tricker ThreeG.
3. Install Tricker ThreeG (it's free).
4. Begin slinging over 3G.

It was literally that easy for me. No SSH, No Fugu, No Text Editing...

I can still not get mine to work over 3g!

My slingbox is at my girlfriends house, I can access it from my wifi at my house so i no the ports are correctly configured.

I have just tried this but I only tried it with thr tricker tree app I uninstalled it, then I installed Backward Compatibillity then tricker tree app.

" you must install "Backward Compatibility" for mobile substrate layer before installing VOIPOVER3G. If you forget, just uninstall, then reinstall after"

Any other tips???

Me too! I'm going to donate to the Tricker 3G programmer as this is something I feel good about paying for!!!

I completely uninstalled Voip3G then installed Tricker 3G. I had no need for the other program as Tricker takes care of Slingplayer and Skype, and that's all I needed. Didn't want to mess with the SSH hacking, etc.

Just wait until Sling comes out with their update. Per my contact at Sling Media, this is a known bug (video squeeze). They intended to use the whole screen and will do so. This may be one limitation of the old Slingbox hardware (Classic, AV) in that they may not be able to fix this for those using that platform. Pro HD and Solo users should be fine.
