The way Apple is not allowing features to Canadian users (Apple pay, IPhone news app, etc), wouldn't be surprised is if Apple is limiting Canadian OS X users from downloading El Capitan quickly.
I'm getting 14 hours remaining on a 90 Mbps connection (speed test). From the US. So, it's not a Canadian thing.

Has nothing to do with Canada. My download of el Capitan started at only taking 1:16, then quickly jumped to 12 hours, then back to 3, then up to 9, then when I got to under an hour, went back up to 4:30. This on an OC-12 line, where my bottleneck would be the gigabit switches my Mac is connected to.

This has nothing to do with country. This has to do with load on Apple's servers and how many people are pulling the same download from all of their servers around the world.

Finally waited patiently for Apple's "waiting" and it downloaded in 20 minutes or less.
El Capitan seems to be faster, or maybe it's just the 50mg/per/sec speed via Comcast...

Been downloading for about 4-5 hours now, only 3.26GB downloaded.
Apple's servers are awful.

Your lucky, i'm only at 2.13 GB.
I'm not so sure, download time estimate just changed to 1 day, 12 hours. -_-
This is ridiculous, this is exactly the problem I anticipated when they stopped distributing the OS on physical media.

Welp, my download just died. Changed from 1 day 12 hours, to 3 days 1 hour, then 'Calculating...' hit 'pause' so it wouldn't fail and waste the time I spent getting the 3.33GB I managed to get so far.

I restarted my computer to perhaps download faster. Well, now it's completely stalled. If I press 'resume' nothing happens. App store simply does not work anymore. None of the resume buttons for any app works.

Help! What do I do?

Download 4.05 GB so far, with an estimated 3 hours to go.
They really need to fix their servers, under better conditions this file would be done already.

@Wreckus Woah, that's harsh.

Odd that mine maxes out at about 6Mb/s (getting 3Mb/s right now), and is starting to download the installer faster than your superior connection.

Apple's servers are clearly a mess.

I deleted El Capitain install from the Applications folder, restarted the computer. Now I download it again, and this time it's more reasonable. It estimates less than an hour.

Oh, never mind, download time changed to 1 day. -_-
Holy hell, I may not be able to install this today.

I kinda wanted this downloaded before lunch time, which is why I started it really early in the morning.
Under normal load conditions, that would have given my connection more than enough time to finish the download in time.

I'm actually angry about this, my connection is not this slow. I've downloaded much larger files in less time.

Think I'm more disappointed than angry. Anyways, i'll just turn off my macbook pro screen and let it download while i'm sleeping. Maybe it will go quicker eventually and get done before I wake up.
