ok, do i drag the pref. file back into its folder after its on the desktop?
 
If dragging it to the Desktop didn't help, then quit Safari and replace the new version that has just been created with the one on the Desktop (put it back where you found it) to restore your old settings. :)
 
Also... whenever Safari becomes a bit sluggish, empty the ~/Library/Safari/Icons/ folder. That's where Safari keeps all the little favicons from the Location bar, and when that folder gets full Safari slows down.

Why this folder isn't emptied whenever you use the Reset Safari function is beyond me... strange of Apple not to do that...
