This is quite ridiculous. Apple misses their own release date, then waits for the last minute of their new deadline (why say 1 or 2 weeks when it's going to be exactly 2 weeks sharp?). So we all think: "Great, better to wait a little longer so that they can work out all the bugs" and then we get an :apple:TV more buggy than Windows Vista....

Great. :mad:

I have an eerie feeling that us early adopters are simply guinea pigs. No wonder Apple isn't advertising :apple:TV . This is a public beta of the device and we're the rats...

I had sluggish performance on UI and during streaming video playback of iTunes purchased movies. No problems prior to 2.0. Using a wireless N network and HDMI output. After a bunch of troubleshooting I found the problem to be the HDMI output. I even tried HDMI at 720p with no improvement. Using composite outputs I have much better performance. Seems to be something with the HDMI handshaking with my brand new 46" Sony LCD. I have read other posters indicate no problem with HDMI, so maybe this is just certain brands of TV's?

Both my TV sets (upstairs & down) are (different models) Sony`s using the HDMI`s input. As i`m still struggling downstairs (upstairs fine !!??) with "sticky" movies (own) menu, i tried running via component and made no difference.

Doesn`t really add a lot to the question but is my own two pence worth.

Off topic...Does anyone no a workround to get both component and hdmi outputs to work simaltaneously other than amps/splitters as i have a 2nd set upstairs ?

So, using the same Apple TV? You move it from one TV to the other and it only has problems with one of the TV's? Seems it would have to be HDMI then as Composite has no handshaking/protocol that could hang it up.
If you have two Apple TV's, then I recommend swapping the TV's they are hooked up to. Makes no sense that you would have problems on one TV but not the other using composite.

Sluggish UI

I have 2 AppleTVs (40 and 160GB). I have been seeing problems on both since the update but only when running them via wireless. Wired seems fine but right not I simply cannot get a wire into my living room so I am stuck with wireless. This week, I upgraded to wireless N (newest Airport Express) and even running an N only network, the problems persists (congrats for Apple for getting my $99 and it likely will not help).

I just reverted one AppleTV to 1.0 and will see how it works. I expect it will work fine, considering it worked pretty well even in G wireless before the upgrade.

I will miss some key features (especially the support of iPhoto events), but actually being able to watch movies that I own is my priority now.

Slow wireless sync since upgrade

Hi !

I'm happy (?) to see that I'm not the only one with AppleTV performance problems. Since the update to 2.0.2 it's nearly impossible to sync wireless although I've got '5-bars' and a brand new Time Capsule. It takes about an hour to sync a 750Mb movie !

I tried the following:

- Complete wired resync;
- Reset to factory settings (1.0) and then a resync (both wired and wireless);
- Update to 2.0.2 and then a resync (both wired and wireless);
- Change the wireless channel to a specific one (e.g. 5 or 8) instead of 'auto';
- Changed the networkprotocol to 802.11n instead of 802.11g;

Unfortunately, there was no change in de performance when syncing wireless. It's so much slower than before. (Of course syncing wired is much faster, but in our home that's no option)

I have no idea what causes the problem, but I'm very disappointed about my AppleTV at the moment. Hardly used it for the last four weeks....
