The Intel 750 works in my Hackintosh if I format it to 4K sectors first under Windows. I don't believe it will work as a boot drive on the MacPro 5,1 (since the BIOS won't understand it) but as a data drive there's a good chance it will work.

I have read, that Lenovo branded sm951 have different controller settings and show speeds up to 1200 MB/s, but Samsung branded show up to 1600 MB/s.

is there a PCI card that would take SM951? At 200 bucks for 512K that is not bad, but would want to try and raid 0 in a single slot.

Where do you see the 512GB version for $200? All i've been able to find is about $340 new on ebay.

I think he's talking about buying two 256 GB's for $99 each and then using something like the Amfeltec to RAID the two 256's together to get a 512GB volume. The four-slot Amfeltec is $400 or so I'd bet the 2-slot is probably $200-300.

Not sure if that'd be economically reasonable for a 512 GB boot card, $200 for the two 256 SM 951s then another 200-300 for the 2-slot Amfeltec..

BTW, got my SM951 256 GB AHCI SSD from MyDigitalDiscount, it says it's a Samsung model, and it was manufactured 2016.09. Weird huh, it's only been out of production for 6-7 months or so?

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. In theory I could buy the 4 slot card for 400, add 4 256 and up with 1tb effective for 800 bucks.

Or...I could buy the 960 gb Kingston predator for 450 plus the lycom for 20 bucks and be at effective 1tb for over 300 less. It would not be nearly as fast as the sm951 in a RAID 0 on the squid, but then just how fast do I need it?

That assumes the Kingston 960gb works in the Lycom PCI card. I am not sure if I have seen anyone using that specific host adapter with the Kingston.

For HyperX Predator, why not just buy the one that with the PCIe card? It's not that much more expensive, and no need to worry about incompatible adaptor.

Here's an eBay seller who has the 512Gb SM951 for $340 each: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252806393821

I had one of them in a single pcie adapter card and now have four of them in the Amfeltec card. No regrets on going with the best!

Would love to go this route, but the cost... and maxing out at 4x512GB yields only 2TB at ~$1,400.

I already have an 850 EVO 2TB SSD and was contemplating RAIDing it with another: Apricon Duo $140 + 850 2TB $650 = $790 for 4TB.

I don't do anything on a daily or frequent basis that would justify needing the speed of the 951's; but it sure would be nice to have.

Didn't realise the 2TB model is so cheap now. $650 already able to get 2x 2TB.

Crucial MX300 2TB cost even less - $525

Thanks for the info, but that $525 is for a single 2TB SSD right?

Auggie said $790 for 4TB (2x 2TB), and that's including the $140 Apricon card! So, only $650 for 4TB, $325 for a single 2TB SSD!
