Going from a 6s to a 13P I was disappointed to find that Tweetbot didn't go into landscape mode. I though it was a glitch until their support said it wouldn't work on phones with a notch. Really?

The notch was made smaller due to the larger cameras… the hardware wouldn’t fit behind it with the old notch.

Exactly. Would be VERY helpful to see VPN at a glance. Important thing for those who use it. I was hopeful, but alas. Next year perhaps.

Glad I’m not upgrading this year for the first time since the 5s. The only real unexpected feature of this phone (outside of the expected battery, processor, very slight and incremental camera improvements, and very slight antenna improvements) is the variable refresh rate. No ”wow” factor this year.
I think one other improvement I am hearing about is the improved thermals. Supposedly these phones don't get warm or flat out hot with light use like the 12 series did?

I'm not an iPhone user but my wife is, and has been for a long time.
While yes, the iPhone is a good solid performer... IPhones are way behind the curve as far as features and tech.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing or trolling but iPhones are in fact years behind.
Just my humble opinion.

The notch is narrower but deeper.

Massive fail. What's the point?

It's actually more obtrusive and annoying now.

Don't know anything about Tweetbot, but last year I upgraded from a 6s Plus to a 12 Pro Max and was disappointed that there is no longer a landscape home screen. It was nice when using a GPS app in a car mount in landscape mode, but on the new phone everything is just sideways when you quit an app in landscape mode.

Anyway, after a bit of reading, it seems that this began awhile ago and none of the "notch phones" have a landscape home screen. Yeah, I also miss the battery percentage, seems like they could have brought that back on the 13... oh well.

That makes no sense at all. How would larger camera not fit in the older notch. They moved the ear piece to the top and that made it possible.

How does it not make sense?!

With the old notch and earpiece where it was, the larger camera setup would have literally not have fitted inside the device.

The movement of the earpiece and of the LiDAR and camera module along with other sensors are a direct result of them making space behind the display. It was done to serve this purpose, and as a result gave more screen real estate (albeit pointless) but that’s not the take away from the change, the space it freed up is for larger internal components.

As you can see on the above picture, the old wide notch is simply not possible.

I instantly noticed that the time and icons got bigger on the new device. Other than that the notch feels the same to me. Doesn't feel worse, doesn't feel better. But i rarely noticed it to begin with and was not a factor in my decision to upgrade.

But it does seem a bit weird, that they are not using the space at all. Just one more icon or battery % and people would have hyped it.

now that i look at it.. why do they even use the signal bars icon anymore. why not scrap it and only have lte/5g/wifi.. you’re either connected or you’re not
