Will this fix minor scratches?

I got the blue leather, but have noticed a couple scratches on it from my wife's nails. I don't think the leather cover will stand up to the abuse of 2 kids either...

minor , yes...also a premium blue shoe polish may work...

How is the leather bleeding issue? apple even mentions it on the site so it kinda scared me away, but I really do want black.

I read that on Apple's website too. I haven't had any problems with it bleeding. So far so good.

I bought the the navy and the red leather covers to use on my black iPad. A few days ago I bought the blue poly smart cover. My favorite is the navy one.

Actually, I have both -- poly and leather. I started out with the orange poly Smart Cover on Launch Day, then a couple days later bought the green one, too. Then I finally got my fingers on a leather one and that sold me right then and there, so bought the black and the tan leather Smart Covers, too. The tan one is now a nice rich brown, thanks to another thread here, in which someone had described using leather oil to darken his tan Smart Cover.....it works a treat and the thing looks terrific! It matches my leather Muzetto case now. So I've got plenty of choices. Sheesh, not only do I have to make decisions about what *I* am going to wear each day, I've got to decide how I'm going to "dress" my iPad before we leave the house, too! :D :D :D

Accessories make the outfit!

Link thread pls :)

Can you link the thread or the title in which they discuss staining or darkening the Tan leather smart cover? This is something I am wanting to do but have zero experience with dyes or oils. Much appreciated!

I bought red leather originally, big mistake. The leathers get marked up way to easily, and are annoying because they actually require maintenance. If you take your nail and lightly drag it against a leather smart cover, and I mean lightly, it leaves a white mark that doesn't go away. Also, if you fold the damn thing it gets the wrinkles and crinkles that leather gets, and it looks horrible! I mean, why make something made to fold out of material that's easy to wrinkle/crinkle? I had my red smart cover for an hour, and it was all marked up. Now I suffer from a pretty bad case of OCD, so I panicked and tried to clean it with water. Whoops, left a nasty dark stain in numerous places. Than I panicked some more and tried to clean it with water and soap, whoops, coloring removed and now left light spots all over. Yes, you can probably get like leather cleaner, but I'm sure that can't get all the marks out, and why go the extra mile, ya knows:)?

So, I went back to the apple store and returned the hoe. I even made one of the employees take out a few different colors out of the boxes to try the test and marks, marks, marks. I really liked the colors leather had to offer, but they all fail to the scratch test and white marks everywhere on a brand new item drives me mad.

I ended up with grey poly, and I'm extremely happy with it. I can scratch it all I want, as hard as I want, and no marks! If it gets dirty, I take some water, soap if necessary, and clean it off. Beautiful once again. And not to mention, the grey matches the silver on the mark, sorta, so it's a nice combo.

Your experience and frustration with the red leather cover is similar to mine. It became marked up so easily and cleaning it was a frustrating and futile effort. I exchanged it for the blue polyurethane cover. It's such a shame too, the red smart cover, when new, looked so nice with the white iPad.

My thoughts exactly. I have/had the navy one on my white Pad and it's the sweetest looking color combo of all in my opinion. I am very anal retentive, and extremely careful with my things. I had a few drops of water get on my Smartcover yesterday and it's essentially ruined now. Tried to clean it with soap and water and made it even worse. I was SOOOOO pissed!

The leathers are great looking at first, the best in my opinion, but sadly I fear that they maybe impossible to maintain.

Originally bought the cream leather smart cover when I bought my iPad. What a mistake! Literally had smudges and finger prints on it before I got home. Tried to clean it and protect it which made it even worse. Then tried to dye it black. Ended up throwing $70 in the trash.

Ended up with 3 Griffin Intellicases in white, pink and red. They have light weight and slim back and front protection and a cleanable cover that works perfect for my needs.

I would much rather have a synthetic material that I can keep clean and nice looking that a grubby looking leather one. Just my opinion.

Leather. I got the tan one. Chose the leather because of the color. It feels pretty good in the hand as well.

I already had the light grey polyurethane but I was disappointed with its tendency to pick up dirt.

I have since bought the tan leather one, but I have rubbed in a few coats of neatsfoot oil. This gave it a darker, more satisfyg hue, while providing protection against the scratches that the leather version of the cover is wont to accumulate.

Surprisingly, more people like the leather. Obviously, the leather one has a better quality, but i think polyurethane would be better in value.

I think the leather one is way overpriced!!!

I agree. If you want a cover to protect your ipad then pu leather should be good enough. They run below $25 but most are like in the $10-15 range. Most people do buy the pu leather and many are satisfied with the build quality according to this article:
http://supremeskins.com/top-3-ipad-leather-cases/

Although if you have the money then go with real leather. But make sure it is the design you want because it isn't cheap.

Leather for sure, they look far more professional and "grown up." The poly ones look childish and cheap to me.

Riiiiight. Let me guess, white is also for girls.

OP, like another poster said, go with Poly unless you just really want black. You won't get your money back later when you go to sell it.

EDIT* Whoops, didn't mean to contribute to a dead thread. I'm on my iPhone and didn't notice it was so old.

Sheesh captain way to thread necro...

FYI I have white apple products. I just prefer the leather stuff. Nuff said.

Odd. My red leather cover is now ~10 months old and looks great. Yes I have cleaned it with mink oil a couple times. But it is leather after all... You cant ignore reality.

Well, I'm a vegetarian so i dont think another living being on this earth should have to lose it's life simply so I can have a leather cover.
That and I personally prefer the polyurethane.

Any updates on this?

Are the covers any different for the iPad Air? Are they still the same covers or have they modified them to fit the iPad Air?

Of course they are different. The iPad air isn't the same size as the others.
