Thats why we have household insurance guys....make sure you claim or get you parents to claim....don't take no for an answer. some one in you house pays for household.....claim.

I cant see how this is apple's issue at all....they might be kind if your really lucky and they are trying to negate negative press issues.

Good luck with that. No insurance company is going to cover that claim.

state farm insurance covers it. (USA) there must be something similar in the uk. Look into personal items coverage. Wait a week and claim it. By then they should be out in the UK. Insurance company wont care if its not released there yet. You will just have to get lucky @ the apple store waiting.

if the warranty is in the us you have to get it taken care of here. They wont do anything in the uk.

This is not a warranty issue. Apple will not cover this. It is user's fault.

Btw, he will be covered for any technical issues all around the world as long as iPad is being sold in that country.

I really don't understand why everyone says warranty will cover this.

If I smash my car and take it to the dealership, will they cover it with warranty? No.

what country you all live in?

This is clearly user's fault and apple will most likely ask money to be replaced.

True, but in the past Apple has done special one-time replacements for people who did something similar to OP. Someone said to just be honest with the store employee and I think that is the best advice. The store employees can do things that are outside of the normal procedures if they want to help you. :)

I thought everyone handled their iPad with kid gloves like me. I hesitate to let anyone hold it.

That is a different story. They may even say we will just give you a new one, who knows. Still, this is not a warranty issue.

The "Smartcover" would have absorbed the impact. Best to keep it on when not in use.

So, apple should just be nice and replace every screens that are cracked by users?

Warranty doesn't cove physical damage, period. Find me a manufacturer that does that. Person can put his sad/crying face to apple and ask for a replacement, but apple is not required to do what so ever.

If they want to help, the stores can do things that are outside of the normal procedures?

Dear god...

Look at what you are saying...

I just broke my iPad. I am so special, so please replace it for free. Is that what you are going to say? There is nothing to be honest about this screen. It's clearly physically damaged.

This is not a warranty issue.

You probably need to know someone at apple. My gf cracked her iPhone 4 screen and my friend just swapped it out for me.

I'll buy it off of you if want want to sell it at a discount. =)

Why are you attacking the poster? Did you crack an Apple product and they made you pay or something? Apple is very good about Out of Warranty replacements all the time. I cracked my iPhone 4 in October. Went to them, told them exactly what happened, told them it was completely my fault and they gave me a free replacement.

I don't think the poster was at all trying to make the statement that anyone who gets a replacement is "special"And why isn't there anything to be honest about? Yes, you should always be honest. If you tell the truth, they will more likely be willing to help out.

The poster also said nothing about warranty.

Does being a douche on a forum where you can hide behind a screen make you feel better about your pitiful life?

Don't you guys read the posts before you post?? It is classed as user damaged within warranty and costs £129 (or currency equivalent) to get replaced at ANY Apple Store in the world providing the iPad 2 has been released in that country already. It does not matter where in the world you bought it! It is also completely up the discretion of the genius you see, and if you can convince him/her that it broke in exceptional circumstances...but that is quite doubtful, so get your money ready if you want it replaced.

Ouch.

Doesn't matter if it's an iPad 2, iPad 1 or a child, nothing will survive than unscathed.

It is very obvious you have never worked in customer service or done any form of local marketing. They don't have to do those little things, but the fact they have done so in the past and will continue to do it is what drives the customer base up every year. You can't tell me that doesn't have anything to do with Apple's revenue increases every single year.

 Ouch, unblockable damage, even a case wouldn't have saved it against one of those jugs.

This is kinda why I liked the Macally metro-l shell I had for my first iPad, I could put it screen down and know that the back could probably stop an bullet.

Best of luck next week OP, hopefully supplies aren't so scarce that Apple won't be able to replace it for you...or charge you crazy amounts for one.
