Well my old Sony Ericson w810 had this option, actually for both either SMS or mms. And it does come in handy sometimes...and that phone was 3 years old from AT&T so it's def capable.

In easy way this can be accomplished it at least being able to go into message details and seeing when it was delivered...like a time stamp...that was also available on my old phone.

So yes, I agree with OP, Apple is sorta behind times...but what's new!

You gotta be kidding me. Apple is behind the times?

Since they leave off some obscure feature that 2% of users ever even use. How was the web browsing, music and application experience on your ericson hunk of crud?

I thought the next gripe was suppose to be tethering. This SMS receipt is totally out of left field.

Yes the left field is coming from France. The OP has been inserting this into some threads, then he says how Noika and other phones can do this, then he makes a dig at Iphone and Apple and sometimes America. This is his standard MO.

He/She new what the answer was going to be because they discussed it elsewhere, but they chose to post a thread about it already knowing the answer.

So, all those times I lied to people, saying my phone was off and I didn't get their text, they might have know I really did get it...

I'm glad Apple hasens't implanted this feature. It makes being a dishonest person a little easier.

What do you know about what i do or do not know? Even if i knew the answer was NO, is that a problem for you? If so i suggest you do not read this thread and no need to comment it...there is no point to do that.
I suspected the answer was no but with the new OS i wanted to make sure i did not miss that option...In all cases i just wanted to make that point? Any issue with that?

My guess is if you are needing confirmation of anything - call them. If that doesn't work, use email.

I have to agree with most of the thread - I find sms receipt confirmation useless and pretty much a joke. I have never had that on any phone and I was on Verizon for years. Read receipts are for insecure people. :)

I think we have different opinions/needs...which is fine...but your point with "call them or email them" does not make any sense...I don't need to explain why i would in some cases need that functionnality as you would obviously not get it or answer "you find it useless" or something else just for the sake of contradiction.

No, I get it. My point is, if you require a confirmation for something, obviously it's either important or you are just wanting to know. In either case, the best method of communication is VERBAL.

Even if you get receipt, it means nothing. It just means the NETWORK received what you sent. It does not mean it was delivered.

There are always better options...I could also drive and tell the people directly what i want to tell them...SMS are more practical that phone calls in many cases, that is why they are popular, anyways...
Otherwise when you get a notification it means it was received on the receiver's phone (maybe not read but received for sure)...that is it...and that is what i and some other people would need in some cases, that option was not "invented" only for me and insecure people (we would be many)...Again, if you do not need it that is fine but stop questionning other's opinions/needs.

My point is, the only reason someone would need something like that is to PROVE a message was sent. However like you said, it will always show as SENT and prove nothing. Just because you received a message that it was sent means just that. Does not mean the person received it or read it. Which voids why you want it in the first place.

I know why you want it.. it's just 99% of everyone else, could care less. Does that make it stupid? No. However it makes it unlikely you will ever see it as a feature.

Enjoy the phone. If you need a read receipt or sent notification - send an email and follow up with SMS

You are stubborn  and did not read well...let me repeat...when you receive a notification it means the SMS was RECEIVED!!! Not only sent otherwise I would not need such a thing.
Alright....I guess we can end up this conversation now.

Like I said, just because it said received and you receive a receipt of that means nothing. It happens all the time with stuff. Not something to trust.

You never answered, why would you want something like this? Why would you need to see if someone received the message?

Why do you say it does not mean anything?
