No, the Radeon 2600 used in the iMacs is a desktop card its not mobile at all.

The entire line is a desktop machine using laptop parts, hence the MXM GPU slot and SO-DIMM memory.

The desktop stuff is limited to the hard drive, and the case.

Well, the performance of my 2600 in bootcamp was greatly improved by installing desktop drivers. I actually think the card is an underclocked desktop card.

Try again and look at your device ID for your 2600 in the iMac, you'll find it is 0x9583 which is...

/* 0x9583 : M76 : Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT */

I'd be extremely cheezed at Apple

I was hyped to hear about OpenCL and confident that my 1 year recent iMac would be supported only to find out its not. Since Snow Leopard has not been released as a retail version, there is still hope that my ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro and yours may still be supported. There is no way I'm buying a new computer every 6-12 months not to be left in the shadows. I understand that technology is advancing rapidly but if this is a tactic or strategy of apple to turn over hardware by making people drool with anticipation and then to pull the rug right out from under them as far as supporting very recent machines then I'd be willing to explore the alternatives JUST for that reason alone. I wont buy a ticket to ride that same carpet.

come september and my machine is not fully supported.... i'll be choked but moving on albeit with a bad taste in my mouth from a rotten apple.

apple, if you are still listening... our hopes are still up, please dont let us down.

for those of you with supported cards who disagree, i do sincerely hope that your cards will still be supported by 10.6.5 and that your gpu's will live long and prosper.

It may be premature to assume that certain cards will not be fully supported in SL. The final build may support more of the legacy hardware than the latest builds do. I'm going to relax until the retail version is released, although I'll admit, I'm curious to know how much of a boost I might get and even whether or not I'll be able to finally use the 64-bit processor I already have!

Classic!!! This is why apple still charges so much for their computers. Their average consumer has no idea what they are buying. LOL
